twitter feeds...bwa?
I'm seeing these more often on my flist. And I scratch my head at them. What's the point of all these tiny little updates that don't say anything? And they're all time-stamped, too.
Trying to parse them out. I guess it keeps the flist from getting flooded with miniposts?

I didn't bother looking into it at the time because only one person on my flist was having their daily Twitters reposted to their LJ's but that number has increased a lot. I'm all for people communicating in whatever way they want, but most of the time it reads like one half of a chat log and that's just doesn't feel like communication anymore...it feels more like spam.

I do follow a couple Twitter feeds from actors, but the ones I'm watching often post about things such as auditioning, writing, etc., amongst the other minor stuff.
Most of the LJ folk seem to be using something that does a compressed post, putting all their stuff from the day into one post. Perhaps they just want to use LJ as a sort of backup for themselves?
Twitter is "The Thing" right now, spurred on by a lot of actors and news people saying exactly that, but I expect it will fade quickly once the new wears off and something else catches the eye.

Also, if you're texting stuff to Twitter from your cell phone during an event, you're not watching/participating/enjoying. I tried this during the David Cook concert. I posted a few things before the concert and during intermission, but after that? I was not going to sit there with my cell phone out while I was trying to watch the show. I felt kind of bad, though, because maybe 50 people followed me because I posted my info, and they got nothing from me except a few pics I posted later that night to make up for the lack of info.
I follow a lot of people on Twitter, mostly just to be polite because they follow (friended) me. I hardly ever look at it, because it's always a bunch of random comments that don't make sense out of context. Nialla mentioned something about a "trackback," but I'd never even heard of that until just now.
The only Twitters (tweets?) I find interesting are from this one guy who is a producer of a TV show (a show I don't even watch). At least he's doing interesting things and posting behind-the-scenes pics and things like that. It's a slight bit of insight into that world, but I wonder how he gets any work done if he's always tweeting and uploading pictures.
I wish people would stop posting these tweets to LJ, though.

ETA: This is my twitter, most posts from the David Cook concert. I don't think it's to keep the flist from getting flooded with miniposts, so much as a way for people who would not be interested in my LJ to be updated on something like this. If you take a peek, you can see they didn't get much from me. heh I thought I would post at least the set list, but I was too busy screaming and jumping around to text anything from my phone during the concert, and I couldn't remember anything useful after.
So...I don't know. I can see it's usefulness for something like this, because in that fandom, everyone wants to know which songs were played, info on the banter with the audience or other bandmembers, etc. Every concert is like a convention in the sci-fi fandom. Something different happens every night, and everyone (including me) wants to know what happened, what he said, what songs were played and how (acoustic, electric, whatever).
OTOH, I've been following people's twitter accounts, and have yet to find anything all that interesting there--including mine. I'm going to guess that most people, like me, get too involved in what their doing to want to spend time texting about it while they're experiencing it.
Using Twitter for everyday messages...I don't know. I guess it's a way to chat without chatting? I can sign onto Yahoo Messenger (or AIM or MSN) on my phone. Toolman does that everyday, so that I can send him a quick message without having to text him--and the conversation stays open, unlike regular text messages. I hardly ever use it, but it's come in handy a couple of times. I can't imagine posting that stuff to Twitter.
Obviously some people find it useful, but again, I don't get subjecting everyone on your flist to it when it doesn't usually concern them.
