Well, I think I officially like Castle over The Mentalist. The Mentalist is quirky, but Castle doesn't rely on a hidden trauma to motivate the main character. Plus, Nathan Fillion is just hysterical in this role, and his timing couldn't be better. Plus, I KNOW that the UST that is there between Castle and the woman police detective is *supposed* to be there. It's mild, but the show is structured that way, so if it goes down that road, it won't bother me so much as it would with The Mentalist.

So, I guess I need to find this show and watch it, don't I?

I'm with you there, actually, which I never thought I'd say because I LOVE The Mentalist. But I think that as a concept it has sort of limited mileage... there's only so many times you can have Jane blurt out inappropriate remarks and whatshername disapprove sharply and the cute Welsh boy be wistful over that girl and Cho be... mysteriously absent, actually, before it gets kind of old. (Also, I'm totally losing respect for them with how much Cho isn't even in the show lately. That character is awesome and underutilized and not white and it's kind of important to use him.) Same goes lately for Lie To Me, though their last episode essentially turned the show on its head and was VERY different from anything that came before.

Castle, meanwhile, actually has bendy enough cases to keep me guessing, and I love the chemistry between the characters. I really like actually that there are so many shows on the air right now where the male and female leads really don't have much sexual tension to speak of, and they don't need it. On Castle it works because there's a little sexual undercurrent to their sparring, but it doesn't feel like anybody needs to do anything about it. Plus, Castle gets HUGE points for having by far the most adorable relationship on TV between Castle and his daughter. That is SOLID GOLD.
