Well, I think I officially like Castle over The Mentalist. The Mentalist is quirky, but Castle doesn't rely on a hidden trauma to motivate the main character. Plus, Nathan Fillion is just hysterical in this role, and his timing couldn't be better. Plus, I KNOW that the UST that is there between Castle and the woman police detective is *supposed* to be there. It's mild, but the show is structured that way, so if it goes down that road, it won't bother me so much as it would with The Mentalist.

Oh yes! His daughter--and mother, let's not forget!--but especially with his daughter. They have a decent relationship, they communicate, she's a little bit too much of a goody-goody even for him, which is kinda funny; I think Castle *expects* her to be rebellious, but she doesn't do that.

The actress also has a striking similarity to Medium's oldest daughter (a real stunner, she's gorgeous, plus, she *can* act and hold her own with the adult actors on that show). My husband and I have wondered if they're sisters.

But yeah. I like that his main relationships on Castle are all *women*--have you noticed? Probably! He really doesn't seem to have much of a life outside of the police office, though.
