I don't buy the softening of the character at all. One of the things that made Daniel's interaction with Vala in the past was that he wasn't fooled by her at all, and now it's like he's totally snowed. I can't stand to watch it, and yet I can't look away.

I think it's highly out of Daniel's character to be so totally taken in by someone like Vala, after having learned his lessons with her the hard way--again and again and again.

I don't think Daniel ever hated her, though. I just don't think he should trust her at all or be her friend in that way.
