Hmm. Has anyone heard of MacKenzie Phillips' accusations that her father (a member of the Mamas and the Papas) had raped her for years? She called it "consensual" after she was 19 years old, but it probably started much earlier than that. There was also a story where she said that when she was 14 and coming home from a nightclub, she hitched a ride with someone and was raped.

Clearly, this woman has had a very screwed up life, and noone did a thing to protect her from drugs and inappropriate behavior when she was a child. And of course, no one is taking responsibility now: as usually, the woman who is crying "incest!" is being called a liar, a ho, a druggie with no credibility, etc etc etc. and asking "well, why did she wait until her father was dead before accusing him of this?"

I watched her interview on Oprah. The stuff she was saying happened to her was horrific and I honestly can't believe that there are people in her own family actually trying to deny it and "protect" her father's "reputation" over getting this woman the help she should have gotten when she was 11 (the first time she tried coke!!). *sigh*

Just read an article about Roman Polanski getting arrested and sent back to the US and all these people calling the 13 year old he raped a Hollywood slut and blaming her in the comments and it just highlights how yet again people put celebrity over the safety of everyone else. It's disgusting.

Maybe if someone was less concerned about MacKenzie's Phillip's father's celebrity and more concerned about her safety she would have been saved the decades of abuse she suffered at her father's and (as a result of her father's abuse) her own hand.

It amazes me and scares me that people have so little empathy left in them.
Makes me wonder where the hell the world is going to...

Why she waited? Oh, I dunno, because she didn't want to deal with the whole conflict?? Am I the only one that makes sense to??

I didn't see the Oprah interview, but I saw her on the Today Show. It really was horrible, and I believe that it did happen. I saw another article about her years ago, that talked about how she lived on a beach in Hawaii with John and her stepmother (I don't think it was Michelle Phillips) in a tent with no running water and no supervision. I think they took off for days once when she was five or six at the time, and she had to find a way to contact her mother in the states to come pick her up.

At any rate, I'm sure there were people who could have helped her, but who didn't even blink at what was going on because tolerating it got them closer to "stardom" in the shape of her father.

I've read about this on LJ because a few on my flist have posted about it. My heart goes out to her (Mackenzie P.), and I'm appalled at the reactions, if all of this is true. The Roman Polanski thing (mentioned above) is equally appalling.
