Ladies No 1 Detective Agency on HBO reviewed on Slate
Wow, what a total prick this reviewer, Troy Patterson on Slate is! he reviews HBO's The Ladies No 1 Detective Agency series (which started out as a BBC production, didn't it?) and hauls in the source material-the books-for some thorough sliming.
I don't expect that Alexander McCall's stories, and story-telling, is everyone's cup of tea. I don't expect that Jane Austen or Stephen King is, either (and I love them both). But seriously...that's a lot of venom spat at the books and their readers. And I haven't seen the series. I can't refute, nor can I agree, with his opinion. But jeez.

I know a few people on my flist are watching the show and they're into it (while at the same time offering some much needed critiques about casting Americans in the lead roles when there are actors right in Africa itself).
