The Guy likes to take supplements for his joints, particularly Osteo Bi-Flex brand glucosamine chondroitin.

I went to Target first to pick up some stuff like shampoo, a dog comb (misplaced Goldy's other comb, darn it) and Benedryl, again for Goldy. I stopped by the supplement aisle to see what Target was charging for a bottle of Osteo Bi-Flex. For the 120 pill bottle, they priced it at $25.34. Okay, not too bad, but I had a $5 coupon from Vons for the same brand burning a hole in my purse.

Off I went to my next stop, the Vons kitty-cornered from Target. The pricing on the shelf said something like $48 for two bottles (of the same stuff, same bottle, etc). So I picked up two bottles. At check-out, they rang up to $110! For TWO bottles of this stuff! I returned one right away, but didn't realize how much they were individually, and ended up standing for 20 minutes at the service counter waiting to return the other bottle.

Cripes. $55 for ONE bottle of this stuff. I told the woman behind the service counter it was $25 at Target. Sheesh. I'm not getting any more OTC medical supplies from Vons after this. Even with coupons.

I guess Vons has to raise its prices on some products, or they lose lots of money. They've had a lot of sales recently.

Does he have arthritis, is that why he uses it? If that's why he is using it, does it actually work?

Both my father and I have arthritis and we've been looking for something that would ease the pain a bit (and hopefully stop or at least slow any continued progression).

He doesn't have arthritis, but he does have knee pain and other minor joint pain. Someone suggested it to him, he tried it, and within a few days, the pain had gone. No more popping, etc.

I'd say, if you can afford it, get a bottle and try it out. The generics are a bit cheaper than this name brand, but I'm not sure if they're as effective. I don't know if Osteo adds other stuff to the mix.

Coolies. I think I'll give it a try. At this point it can't hurt. And no more popping would be awesome since right now half my joints pop when I move. *G* Thanks hon!

One thing I forgot to mention--it is derived from shellfish, so if you're allergic to that ingredient, it might not be a good idea to take it. Read the label carefully.

Oh hmm... I don't actually eat any seafood at all. My sister is allergic to shellfish and I do get itchy when around it but I don't know if that is more a 'I'm totally grossed out' kind of thing. :P Perhaps I'll mention it to my doctor first before I take it.

Jumping in to say that while I've never been diagnosed, I'm pretty sure I have osteoarthritis. There was a time a few years ago when my knee was so painful I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to walk. I doubt that it's all on the Glucosomine, but I've been using it for a few years now and I do notice that my knees hurt less and my joints work a bit better. I usually buy whatever is cheapest, but I do check the ingredient list and compare it to the Osteo BiFlex type things.

Oh, and your icon makes me grin!! Love it!

If you can tolerate the shellfish source, this stuff is great. I can't talk about generics because I usually get the name brand on sale (for about the same or a little less than quoted here). All it takes is a few days and my joints are feeling much, much better. I haven't been diagnosed with arthritis yet, but only because Doc and I haven't gotten around to that. So in the meantime he calls it "arthralgia".

Thank you! I'm definitely going to check it out. I'll talk to my doc first about the whole shellfish thing. It kind of sucks when you actually don't eat something so have no idea if you're allergic or not. *snerk* Most likely I'm not but my sister has a really bad allergy to it so I just want to be on the safe side. But if she says I can take it I'm definitely going to try it! SO tired of feeling like I'm 75 because I hurt everywhere. :P

You're welcome! I wish you luck with this. You'll be amazed at how good you feel--like feeling your age again. :)

I worked as a professional/indistrial housekeeper for over a decade and did some serious damage to some joints, both through repetitive motion and from impact injuries. Like you, I was feeling (and moving) like an old person while still in my 20's. Here it is 20 years later, and while I don't expect the damage to be undone life has become much more livable with Osteo Bi-Flex.

That sounds like heaven!! To be able to move around without being in pain - or even to be in LESS pain - sounds wonderful. I really do hope I can try it and that my results are as positive! *crosses fingers*

But remember--after you get clearance from your doctor, CHECK PRICES! It might even be cheaper online. Obviously, prices vary wildly from store to store. You don't want to get gypped.

I ended up buying the Target store brand for the same price, but with 80 extra pills in it. Hubby said that it was lacking a certain ingredient but he wasn't upset about it-he can add that through another pill.

I will :D We don't have many places around here and the drugs through online in Canada tend to be even more expensive than buying it through a store but we have a few health food places too. Hopefully I can find it somewhere without having to give an arm and leg for it. ;)

I've used Osteo Bi-Flex and just the generic Glucosomine Stuff and I really can't tell the difference. Okay, really I buy whatever is cheapest at the time ;-) I can tell the difference in my knees since I've started taking the stuff, but it doesn't seem to matter about the brand.

Ooo, another testimonial.

My husband's doctor recommended it to him, even though he wasn't entirely convinced (ie, not backed up by studies) that it worked. The doc had heard anecdotally about it.

But it does work.

It's a shame you didn't realize how much they were individually while at the checkout. You could have cancelled the transaction before having to stand in line at the service desk.

If the sale price doesn't ring up at the register I dispute it. They have to sell you the product at the sale price if it's clearly marked on the shelf or in a sales flier. The tricky part is making sure you read the fine print on the shelf tag, like the price expiration date or product code.

I've had two disputes turn out with opposite results in the past. Both included shelf tags which were left up after the sale price was supposed to have expired. One cashier let me have the product at the sale price, the other flatly refused. And the one who refused was rude about it.

Let the buyer beware.

I thought I had checked the date the sale was over, but apparently not!

I was planning on stopping buying medical and OTC stuff at Vons, anyway. Target tends to be cheaper on MANY items, including food. I just wish we had a Super Target nearby. As it is, I can save a fair amount by buying frozen foods and milk and so forth at Target.

Well, I don't know what a Vons is, but I know that Target is cheaper than my "one-stop" grocery store.
