WWW.Amazon.com is selling Stargate season 8 (I think) slimline case, for $20.00.  Just thought some of y'all on my flist would be interested. (god knows I'm not)  It might be season season 9, too.

The big fat cases are really cheap now, too. But don't throw 'em out yet!

Personally, I'm thinking of putting the fat cases in storage, buying some slim cases that can hold 2 DVDs, and make some covers and make some room in the shelves for more DVDs. And, of course, the covers will *not* feature Sam, and will have accurate descriptions on the backs.

We've had a couple of people who've transferred their DVD set over to binder systems. It does keep the art, but not the case, so they donated the empty cases to the library so we could use the cases to replace any of ours that fell apart. Which is cool, because while $1-ish per case is cheap, any money saved is much cooler.

I have seasons 1-4 and 7 and 8. The latter ones I only got because they were on sale at the time. I have yet to watch any of them, so I think I'm going to sell them. If I do ever need an episode I don't own to do a Breadbox or just have a yet to rewatch, I can just rent it.

Yeah. I'm very particular about what DVDs I buy, even if they're on sale. That's why I posted about the first season of "24". And since I don't think I'll ever watch the later seasons of Stargate, for various reasons, well, they'd have to pay ME.

During the B.N. period (that's "Before Netflix") I had to buy any DVDs I wanted to watch. I often bought used copies if I could find them in local stores, and supplement that with buying used copies online if I was trying to complete a series.

I live in a rural area, so renting at the corner store isn't much of an option. We do have a rental shop (and we have DVDs at the library), but neither have many TV shows on DVD, and that makes up a lot of my DVD viewing.

Back in the day I couldn't download anything either, but even now that I can if I want, I generally delete episodes as soon as they're out on DVD. If I want to rewatch, I'll rent or buy it. But I find I don't rewatch much, simply because there's so much "new" stuff out there I want to watch.

I think I'm just more of a collector. I buy some DVD sets because I want to watch them and it's annoying trying to catch them in syndication--even with the Tivo--because they often skip over episodes, for one thing. (Like with Farscape! LOL When are they finally going to show the missing episodes? *g*)

But...if I buy a set, it's also because I want to keep it and own it. I could never be content with renting most series, because I want to keep them here forever and ever. *g* There are some shows that I think I wouldn't mind renting, like Smallville, but if I end up liking it enough, I'll probably want to own the DVDs, and if I don't care, well then...I don't really care. *g*

When we watch DVDs, too, it often takes us months and months to go through a set. I sometimes go through an entire season in a matter of days or in just a couple of weeks, but then if it's something I think the whole family will like, we watch it together, one episode at a time, each of us taking turns watching shows. Sometimes I don't choose the same show all the time either, so it could take us months to get through one season. Sometimes I watch things with [livejournal.com profile] lyraeinne when she's home now, since she can't always see stuff when she's away at school.

I also like to have episodes around so that, yes, I can obsessively watch my favorites again and again if it's that kind of show, but also so that I can go back and check facts or watch a scene when I think something happened and maybe I'm wrong.

But Stargate...I bought those to watch, and now they are more of a collection to me. I've never watched the season 8 set. I never even finished watching the commentaries because I got sick of them and sick of the show at the same time.

I didn't get sick of it completely then, but it was around the time of the SuperCam! of season 9 and I didn't particularly care for that and it was also the time of knowing that Vala was going to be a full-time character and most probably on the team. It was all I could do to keep a semi-good outlook for the rest of season 9. *g*

But...as I've mentioned before, the OCD part of me needs a complete set or it's ruined. And I feel like I either have to replace my entire set or get rid of what I have. I currently have the SG-1 sets hidden behind other stuff so I don't have to see that incomplete set everyday. *g* But I know it's there.

I know it's not a serious problem in life, but it's like having someone picking away at a scab every single day. Why have that in my life? But I still can't decide what to do.

Hee! *g* I'm particular, too, but I'm also sort of more of a collector. I have DVDs I've never even watched--never even opened. *g* It's important to me just to have them--to own them.

My friends didn't even keep the artwork, but to me...it's the whole thing that's important--not just the artwork, but the whole package. *g*
