I give up. I surrender.

I've come to the realization that I'm hooked on CSI. Every night I lie down on the couch and watch the two to three hours the recorder records off of Spike TV and watch. And OMG, since I've been watching the earlier seasons, before it became more like it's glitzier spin-offs Miami and New York, I actually LIKE Grissom now. And Sarah. And although the writing is uneven here and there, at least in the earlier seasons the characters interacted, and now I "get" what other folks were saying about "Team" on this show. Don't know if I'd look up fic for it. And Nick Stokes is a babe, alright. And some fans are going to roll their eyes at this, but I saw the Ship Development between Grissom and Sarah happening from way in the beginning - from like, the first six episodes. I don't know how I feel about it, exactly, but I'm not up in arms about it. Hey, NOT a shipper here. After all, they did "flirt" with the idea of Willows and Warrick for a while, I noticed. Well, as long as the affair between Grissom and Sarah is dealt with realisitically - for example, Grissom is reprimanded, or Sarah has to be moved to day-shift or go to another facility in another city (can you imagine her in "Crossing Jordan"? LOL) I'll go with it.
I'm not totally caught up yet, but I have realized (after finding an episode list) that I've caught a lot of season ... five? or four? before. Which might explain why I wasn't thrilled with the characters. Somewhere along the way, they all lost their souls to the Neilson machine and the glitz.

Geez, why is a show always better (almost) in the earlier seasons? The one exception would be The Next Gen and probably DS9, which got better as it went along.

Many shows take time to explore the characters and settings, such as TNG and DS9, so things get better as they go along. Other shows think that after a few years they've got nowhere else to go but to force a ship into play.

And you're right. It's in the later season, the one I first saw, where I was so "Yuck, these Fashion Forensics People!" No personalities! And I don't think I was wrong. They did all get shallower (if that was possible) in the later seasons. And the cow-eyes did get more frequent.

Date: 2007-01-22 07:45 am (UTC)I may be watching it now - but on certain issues with this show, my mind hasn't changed much. There are still plenty of instances where the glitz overcomes the substance, and the science gets wonkier than Sam Carter on a science tear. I still make fun of parts of it.

Date: 2007-01-22 05:00 pm (UTC)Eames/Stokes: man, he changes looks more often than...well, I didn't think it was possible for a guy to change his look so often. The show I watched last night (the one with the Swingers partying, a woman dead in a fountain) his head was practically shaved. In more recent shows, he's got the Supernatural cut with bangs feathered over his forehead.
The only other character with MORE looks is Willows and Greg - and Greg seems to have settled down some. He looks good with that bleach blond thing going. He had some goofy hair before that.
