Ugh. Daniel takes Vala out on a "date" in the upcoming "I Was A Lousy Waitress" Vala-centric episode. Here's the clip on UTube, if you're interested in watching the not-date.

Excuse me while I stick my finger down my throat.

Well, I certainly learned my lesson. As long as there are oodles of squeeeling shippers and Vala-lovers over on OS, I am going to have to limit my exposure to the chatroom. sighs

And you're right, I think: I'm trying to detach myself from this show, but honestly, it's like watching your exboyfriend derailing in a train wreck, and it's hard to not feel involved somehow, even if you hated how he turned out after several years of dating him. I suppose the only real way to turn off the show, is to turn off the fandom completely as well.

I think it comes down to what you define as fandom, too. I only discuss the show in certain places and with certain people. It might seem odd or maybe even contradictory, but I don't feel like I've left the fandom. I've cut down my exposure like you wouldn't believe (you'd never believe it when I gripe the way I do). I limit myself to a few areas. I'm happier this way. I just can't get worked up about a TV show anymore. I may still be enjoying it in a superfiscal way and I may mourn what greatness has been lost, but either way I can't invest myself that deeply. It's negatively affecting my life. None of us need that on top of everything else we have going on.

And as sad as it is, many of us have somethign to fall back on now. Whether for you its Dresden Files or SBG and Aiz have Supernatural. I'm working on my own writing. We have something to fall back on. It makes me really sad. But I'm also happy that I've been able to get to know people in the fandom and that I believe the show has had a great run, for the most part. I'm excited for movies, even if I am cautiously optimistic about them. But in between the shipper wars and the flaming, it's been nice ;)

In the end, fandom is what you define it to be. So, if that is a forum, a community, a list, a group, your LJ, or even just a few people, it's still your own terms. Of course, if it means not watching the show or interacting with people, that's your choice too. What works for one person isn't going to work for another. But you know that.
