The X-ray was clear, the vet didn't see any chicken bones. He couldn't see any obstruction in Goldy's gut. The bloodwork was clear. Goldy is now going on antibiotics. If those don't work, then he'll try another treatment. He calls it "gastroentitus", a sort of umbrella term. He's not sure at this point what the problem is. I'm supposed to call back around 3:30, midafternoon, to see what's up.

I'm debating now whether I should go with Mermaid and her friend and her father to Santa Monica Pier this afternoon. If I don't go, Little Guy doesn't go (although I told him I'd take him next week all by himself if I needed to stay home because of Goldy)...but the Guy has expressed some misgivings about Friend being able to handle the two girls in the Pier, where there are hundreds of people meandering about. The two girls get crazy when they're together. I do have my cellphone all powered up and ready to go, of course.

Poor Goldy!

I hope he feels better soon. It may just be that the chicken bones passing through caused some temporary problems. Or it could be totally unrealated. Jessie used to get weird stomach problems in the summer, when the humidity was high. I never did figure it out. Good luck.

(with the girls at the Pier, too.)

Oh, the kids had a great time at Pacific Park, thanks!

You know, I wonder if it was the combonation of the chicken bones maybe scratching something on their way through his body, and then him eating (yuck) two nasty used pull-ups a couple of days later...I don't know if that's the problem, but for some reason, it makes sense. Those disgusting things could cause an infection internally if the digestive system was already having some problems...I guess we won't ever know for sure, but he sure ain't getting near those pull-ups again.

Glad it isn't specifically the chicken bones, but not so good that they dont' know what it is. Hopefully it's just the 'aftershocks' of the bones and it will right itself with the antibiotics. :)

Come back to this thread - I think I know what the reason was. I'll have to ask the vet sometime if it might have been the combination of the chicken bones and the two pull-ups he ate later in the week (gross, I know). I completely forgot about him doing eating those things.

Pull-Ups, eh? Try cloth training pants, he might not eat them. ;D I even have some I can send you...

He seems to be getting better. The amoxicillin is helping, I think, and whatever that other pill is. He actually ate his plate of chicken meat this morning, and was sniffing around the kitchen floor for any missing crumbs. I'm so glad his appetite is back!

I don't know if this helps, but my dog has a very sensitive stomach. Whenever he gets his mouth on some chicken or turkey, he gets very sick. He has diarreha, bad gas, and sometimes pukes. We give him rice throughout the day and in his food to bind him. Usually after a day, two at the most, hes back to normal.

Wow. That is a *real* sensitive stomach!

Luckily Goldy ate up his morning serving of chicken meat (NO BONES) and I'll have to go out and get some more. I'll have to ask the vet's office if feeding him rice would help...but his problem is a little different, I think.

(I'm starting to think it was the two pull-ups he ate a couple of days after eating the bone - I think the bones scratched his insides and helped an infection grow - he's eaten pull-ups before and not had this happen)

He seems to be recovering. He's still under the weather and more quiet than usual even for him. Hopefully by the time Mermaid gets back from overnight camp, he'll be his usual self. :-)

Thanks, Karen! If you can, (when you have the time and you've recovered enough from ComicCon!) read the updates - he's doing better today (Saturday) and the medicine is working. I think he had a really nasty infection developing in his gut. I hope this stuff works to get rid of it.

I think I'd be devestated if we lost him.
