This is driving my nuts.  (has to do with my NaNo project)

I've finally got my title to hang the story on. Titles usually summarize a story neatly for me. They're good springboards.

I've even got the basic premise down. And I have two characters semi-defined, and one I know is a male. And that's it. That's all.

I'm going nuts because the characters aren't coming to me. What do I need, a dog-whistle?  Last year, okay, I had an idea, and I had a generic main character for whom, after I started writing, the other characters came to life because she needed them - indeed, they became more interesting than HER, which was a slight problem.

Anyhow. I suppose I shouldn't beat my head up about this.
Hi all -

I know a lot of you on my flist don't live in my area, but what the hey. If you're in the Greater LA area, there's a NaNo meet-up today at

2:00-4:00
Lulu's Beehive
13203 Ventura Blvd
Studio City
818-986-2233

I'll be there at 2:00 to Meet a few of the WriMoes who could make it, including at least one of the other MLs for the LA region. This should be fun! I haven't been down to that area in ages.

The Rain, pt 2 )
Atlantis drabble.

Warning: Character deaths. (not Teyla or Ronon)
Spoiler: Damned if I can remember the episode title, but it's a tag for the one where Weir and Sheppard allow themselves to be taken over by those warring alien entities and turn into superwarriors.
Pairing: Teyla/Ronon (friendship or shippy, either)
Rating: for a drabble? V for violent?

The Rain )
For a very short Kill Dr Weir story. Preferably someone with grammar skills, and knowledge of Atlantis. Also will need a short turn-around.

Thank you!
For those who have PDAs, Storylines, that awesome program that helps you plot, plan, describe and organize your stories has now got a Beta version of a PDA program! As far as I can tell, except for a couple of things, it does exactly what the desktop program does. My only problem using it is that my ideas are so sketchy at this point, and to generate ideas, I have to write as a "seat of the pants" writer, ala NaNoWriMo. It's still cool, though.

The address for the website is in my memory -- just look for "Storylines program" in my memories on LJ, and you should find it. OR, to make things really simple, just click on the little tag at the bottom of this entry. The other post should pop up right under this one. How simple is that? :-)

This program was recced on [livejournal.com profile] janowrimo  by [livejournal.com profile] vitter  on this post: http://www.livejournal.com/community/janowrimo/17446.html

I'm finding it to be a very flexible, useful writer's program. I downloaded the demo from this site http://www.writerscafe.co.uk/ . The demo, is of course, more limited than the full version, but it does give you five story through-lines to set up and 30 cards to use for plotting.

It does not adhere to any philosophy of writing, unlike Dramatica or other similiar softward, and the only thing you need to learn is where things go.  You can import scenes you've written, and if you're the type of writer who likes to write out of order, it's fantastic for that. All you have to do is import that scene (if you've already written it), make it a note, and put it in the "pocket" or unassigned file.

I could go into deeper detail about it but all you have to do is check out the demo and see for yourself.  I'm not an agent for the folks who developed this, but I think it's a great little program for all sorts of writers, no matter what their style of writing is.

I'm stalled out right now. I can't think of anything to give my characters to DO, since I don't know where the HELL they're going! *sighs* I really should have planned the story out more, like I told myself I was going to do this year, unlike last year.

But I do have plans to use that Snowflake method on the stuff I've already got written, or have stalled out on for other projects, or haven't gotten started on. I have to get over that "it'll KILL my MUSE!" wail going on in the back of my head. If I *ever* want to be published or what have you, I think I have to get more organized and persistent about it. My own writing gets normalized FIRST.
I failed to write a single word yesterday. Nadaword.

I'm stuck, I think, because I've been surfing the surface of the characters and their relationships, and not going for the throat, which is what WOULD have happened, had I not only been going for the wordcount.

There's a character who's soul has been shorn in half. Half of her is in possession by this really Bad Dude, along with her mother and brothers (and I think her father, but I don't know). Her *other* half is being taken care of by her friend who was there when the Bad Dude was originally chased off (to fight yet another day). So, you'd think there'd be more fireworks, but as it is, all I've done is hint about how much the Good Guy hates this Bad Dude -- and also hinted that perhaps he (the Good Guy) perhaps has his own mixed feelings about caretaking for a half-soul who's a girl when they each had barely time in their living lives to be *themselves*. Gar. These three alone are more than enough for a novella, I think, if I really thought about the interrelationships going on.
Under what condition do YOU write well?

I'm finding out that I work well when:
There are no children in the house.
There is no husband in the house.
I am not in the house, but am in a coffee shop.
If I must be in the house, that I am off the main computer.
If I must be in the house, I have the PDA hooked up to the folding portable keyboard on a large hardcover book (standing in for a portable desk), on my bed, with some classical music playing.
There are no children in the house.
And lastly, I am away from the internet hook-up on my desktop. Hence the importance of the PDA.

Jack/Daniel slash fic challenge

Here it is -- this is for [livejournal.com profile] inapickle

Jack/Daniel slash, of course. No smarm, no mpreg...and hopefully this is a happy ending?

I'm in a posting frenzy, I tell ya, frenzy!

From the Table of My Memory: miniJack and Jack with a little Daniel mixed in. What happens to the physically younger version of Jack when he cracks? Waiting on final beta-er to finish (thank you to [livejournal.com profile] karendreamer  and [livejournal.com profile] eviljr for your input so far) Perhaps the last installment in my miniJack series. Maybe.

Written in Stone: [livejournal.com profile] pegasus_b  femslash story between Elizabeth Carter and Sam Carter...sorta kinda yeah, baybee.  Weir finds a worry stone in her quarters. But then things start to happen after it's touched by McKay and O'Neill. About to post after one more run-through. (again, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] karendreamer  and [livejournal.com profile] eviljr  for beta-ing)
