Yeehaw! My mom and I went to the used bookstore today, and I managed to remember the writer's name of the Stargate movie tie-in novels. There were two of the McCay books on the shelf -- and YAY! In it, McCay has Jack and Sarah O'Neil back together, with their marriage patched up. That's where the *series* should have taken it, too. They were good together.

Stargate: Rebellion
Stargate: Reconnaissance

I think Rebellion comes first. It's publishing date is 1995. Reconn is 1998. There are a couple of other books missing. Oh, and Daniel and Sha'uri's marriage is rocky, there is NO Sam Carter (YAY!), but neither is there Teal'c. And Hathor destroys Abydos. And there are no Goa'uld.

Bill McCay wrote three or four novels based on what Emmerich and Devlin *would* have produced had they kept the rights to Stargate.

I bought Rebellion...it was interesting. I liked that Jack and Sara stayed together, but I love the series and the friendship between Jack and Daniel so I really missed that.

I enjoyed the movie and the book definitely follows that line but I think I still prefer the series ;):P

Julie, that so rocks! I love Jack and Sarah. If I'm a good little fangirl and work on my fic(s) can I borrow them when you're done? I'll treat them lovingly.

Problem is, these are out of print books: and after several bad experiences in the past (nothing to do with you) I am usually wary about loaning out books which would be difficult to replace if anything happens to them. I know these aren't supervaluable, but I've been looking off and on for them for a while now. You can take a look at them next time you come up, though! (and I'll keep an eye out for any other copies while I'm at it)

I do understand. I've had a couple of bad experiences loaning out books. One came back damaged and I haven't gotten the other back yet. They weren't out of print or anything, but hardcover books that I planned to keep.

That and you're just giving me even more reasons to come up and visit. ;)

That was the point of the movie ending, wasn't it? Daniel was to start a new while Jack would be returning to mend the old.

I think it's a TV faux pas to think that stable (not the best tern here but go with me) relationships would bore the viewer. The lead guy always has to be single, either through divorce, separation, or death. This leads him open to various sexual and romantic escapades so that by the end, he can finally realize that love has always been there in the form of his female lead counterpart.

Oh, I agree. Big mistake. I LOVE seeing an honest-to-goodness happy couple on screen. Look at Zoe/Wash on Firefly. Love that couple. Notice, though, that it's the female 2IC who's allowed the happy relationship while the male lead who, well, I don't know how to describe Mal.

It would have been very nice to have Jack married and have SG1 be friends. All of them. :)

I think that is why I am always so turned off by lead male/female romances. I always seem to bite when you have secondary pairings though.

In Firefly, I am not too big on the Mal/Inara thing. Not because the actors can't act. Just because I expect it all the time. Zoe/Wash are refreshing. I was a little put off by them at first, though, because I am not used to seeing that! But I love it.

My fave is Kaylee/Simon. Hey, it's cliche but I have my weaknesses, what can I say?

I don't know. I don't know why Tv and movies can't have people just being friends. It happens in real life. I want to see that.

I think if anything, if they'd kept Jack and Sarah married on the show, it would have *added* to the family-feel of the series. Can you imagine the uber-angst Jack would have felt in 100 Days if he were still married, yet was beginning to feel something for this other woman? What about the extra support Daniel might have gotten from a woman not related to him, about his own problems with Sha're, if he got her back? They didn't design Carter to be a warm, loving, person like Sarah seemed to be in Cold Lazuras. She would have made a lot of Carter's current shitty character development unnecessary.

Personally, I would have loved to see Jack and Sara have gotten together. I saw the episodes all out of order, so I was a bit confused at first, until I saw the first season. I was really down about that. It would have brought a whole different layer and dimension to the show, and I think it would have helped have a balancing effect on the characters.

The only downside I see to it is that Jack and Daniel might not have become as close as they had (both lost a spouse in one way or another) and Jack might not have been as supportive with Teal'c. I not bashing Jack here. I am just saying that while he could still be friends with his team, and take his job seriously, he would have a wife and she, imo, would be the most important thing in his life. I liked the dysfunctionalism of the four characters and how that brought them very close to each other.

Conversely, I would have also liked to see a Jack that thought of her often instead of the whole Sam/Jack thing. During season one, we saw something that could be interpreted as sexual tension between Sam and Jack (it happens irl and that doesn't bother me) but he was a man that was still thinking of Sara. We were reminded of that in several episodes. They could have blossomed that into something very angsty, with even the possibility of getting them back together at a later point. Also, Sam never took it any farther than whatever was there. It was very professional and adult. That way, we could have Jack who was serious about his job, would stand by his friends, but also had that longing for his wife that he kept fairly secret. This was a great foil to Daniel who was very vocal about finding his wife. I think the interplay there could have been outstanding.

When Daniel finally loses Sha're would that have Jack reevaluate his relationship with Sara? Would he finally act instead of keeping pictures, trinkets, and like in Brief Candle, start to write to her? I wanted that to keep up. The last we saw were some pictures in Jack's house in the season seven finale.

Since Teal'c also was married and with a child, they could have used that as well. Jack could have played more the mentor to Sam instead of developing it into the mess they did.

I think it would have worked out really well.
