Zuma Beach!

I went to Zuma Beach (link to the beach page) for the first time yesterday for a birthday party (a neighbor has celebrating her tenth birthday). I feel like I've Finally Arrived in California, even after living here for over a decade. Why is that? Zuma Beach developed legendary status in my head when I was kid, with a movie called Zuma Beach (and check out the actor list on this link: it's amazing, really!) and scads of other California oriented movies, tv shows and songs by the Beach Boys.
It really is a nice beach. It was windy and a little chilly when we went there, but it was one of the widest beaches I've ever seen, EVER. White sands. The surf was up although according the beach page I linked to, the surf wasn't all that great yesterday. I don't know about that. The water was freezing, but there was plenty of surf!
Did it live up to my imagined ideal of the quintessential CA Beach? Well...I'll have to go back when it's not so windy, and a little warmer. But it was better than a Dockweiler Beach, which is right off LAX and about the same distance away.
