Yet more neighborhood drama. Not like the drama of a house burning down across the street last year (see the icon). This time, a ladder truck and a hose truck parked along the road, along with a police car. The house directly across the street had a yellow tape across the entrance. There didn't seem to be any smoke or fire. The second time I went out to see what it was about I saw the owner of the house -a long-haired blond woman, I've met her before, she's nice- sitting on the curb looking upset and talking to a policeman.

I don't know if there was a kitchen fire, at all...I kinda sorta wonder (and this is all my forensics TV watching showing up here) if her tenant died in her apartment. Or something. Her tenant's an older woman who drives this really old white sedan and always wears a head-scarf and the same drab clothes.

My guess would be that something happened to the tenant. If someone doesn't show up for work, or there's cause for concern, they usually send a fire engine and a police officer over to break into the home and check it out. (I dated a fire fighter, and he'd broken down several doors and a couple windows in similar cases.) They usually send fire because if there is a lock box on the building, they can open it, and they're usually trained paramedics, which police officers aren't, always.

That's in Massachusetts, anyway.

I hope your neighbor is okay though. Maybe it's something else. and she's okay. A gas leak?

I dunno. There were sirens and it was pretty loud! The door looked like it had been broken down-the frame was splintered and hanging from the wall, so it could be a scenerio similiar to what you described. The tenant doesn't work, though, that I can see. I saw her this morning fiddling with her trash cans.

Other drama from about 2 or three years ago: did I ever mention the time a police was cruising down the road, and after I stopped in my driveway and got out, they described a small child to me who was wandering the neighborhood that another neighbor had alerted them to--turned out it was the little boy who lived down the street a few doors. His mother is...whacky, shall we say. Her son was about 3-4 years old at the time. I have no idea if CSP was called in or not. (I also don't think she appreciated it when I told her 9 year old daughter that she shouldn't have so much responsiblity over her younger brother--she would be in chrage of him and taking care of him for *hours*)

Okay, the tenant is alive and well. I don't know what happened-kitchen fire? or something like that, or an attempted break-in. Our neighborhood has those every once in a while.
