It's 1:20 in the afternoon my time, and I FINALLY remembered that I need to eat.

Last night didn't go so well, because the Guy and I broke down and ordered a Papa John's thin crust Garden Veggie special pizza, large (because that's the smallest size our Papa Johns will make them now) and we each ate half. Easily. Even me. I guess I could have stopped half-way through slice three, but I just...I couldn't. It was so good!

And of course, the rest of the evening was spent farting because the ole gut is NOT into processing processed flours, I guess. It was a pretty immediate thing, so feedback from the body is pretty clear. I really really can't eat those items (breads, pastas, rices, pastries and *sobs* cake) as much as I used to, if at all. Especially if I don't want to contribute to global warming like the rest of the cattle on earth. Moo!

The stalling on the scale wasn't great, either. It wasn't only the pizza, of course, but it's the first morning where my weight has actually *gone up*, and no, am not recording it-or if I do, it's going to be with a note.

Tonight Mermaid goes to a birthday party for one of her friends at a fantastic pizza place that wood-cooks their pizzas, and those pizzas are *amazing*. It's not just the wood stove. Their sauce and their cheese and all the garlic in the crust is heavenly. I don't know if I need to stay (I'll ask the other mom when I get there). But I'd better have some sort of back-up.

*note: I realize you're not "supposed" to weigh yourself everyday, but I can't resist, even though I know it's not a great indicator, and can contribute to ...I dunno, obsession is the word I'm looking for. And it's not all the weight, either. I need to tone up those flabby muscles.

Don't forget that the salt in the pizza will cause you to retain water. I bet you see a drop in a few days. Try to get out and walk some today and tomorrow.

That's right, I forgot about how the salt is piled into these order-out pizzas. I'd been going lighter on the salt these days because of how my blood test came back.

Although I do admit to missing the ease of breads and pasta (and rice) and the fact that so many recipes, cheap ones, especially, feature them, it hasn't been as difficult as I thought to switch into what is really a diabetic diet. The SBD never quite goes there, calling itself a diabetic diet, but that's what it really is.

I think you said earlier on another post you weren't convinced about the veracity of the claims of processed flour, etc not being good for you. Can you explain that more (if that was you)?

Mostly it's from various articles I've read, as well as doctors I've talked to.

The gist is that while there are many people who respond positively to cutting them out, that's generally indicative of an underlying issue. It might be nothing more than an overly-sensitive gut. It might be something far more drastic like Celiac Disease. Mostly, though, to say that *everyone* would benefit (which is far too commonly stated by this brand of food evangelists), is incorrect. (And no, I haven't seen you saying that. :-)

I use myself as an example. I can *live* on bread, potatoes and rice, with a bit of meat or eggs thrown in. Oh, and having a terrible sweet tooth, I use sugar in my coffee every day.

Supposedly, I should be suffering, as in painfully suffering, from my diet. I don't. Fruits and vegetables come and go in my diet and no matter how much I change it up, as long as I include starches and animal proteins I stay healthy and active with little to no gastric distress. About the only thing I have to watch out for is the odd time I decide to have ice cream for dinner. :-) I'll usually suffer a major sugar crash after the fact.

I do agree that the most comprehensive diet (as in what we eat, not as in weight loss, but it helps) available for most people is to "shop mainly on the outside wall of the grocery story". Most American grocery stores (or at least the ones I'm used to) have all the produce, fresh meats and dairy on the "edges" of the store. Quick forays into the baking aisle and the pasta/rice/dried bean aisle easily complete a good basic diet. I don't always follow that because I'm lazy, but it's what I try to do. I also have a few canned goods I require, but most of them have low or no salt options. (Mostly tomato sauce, Rotel tomatoes and Ranch Style Beans because I NEEEEED them. ;-) Oh, and dried fruit, which is a great snack, not to mention a terrific addition to a lot of things.

Ultimately, though, if YOU benefit that's all that matters... and it sounds like you're suffering when you eat them, so it sounds like a good plan that you're cutting them out.

I felt the same way when I was ordering a Domino's Brooklyn-style pizza every other week back in November.

I do weigh myself in the morning every day, so don't feel that you should or shouldn't--just do what you want. I wouldn't worry about recording it other than at longer intervals though, like once a week, but it never hurts to see how your body responds to different things.
