Famous line from some movie, I think, but i can't remember what it is!

I went and bought the two South Beach Diet books. The RN who saw me for my physical last week suggested that I need to lose weight (der, even I know that) and tone up, and take bunches more calcium, preferably in food form, but pill form is fine for now, too. Oh, and I need to work out.

I think I covered that part in my last post.

So, the book I've been concentrating on the most is the updated, foil covered (it's shiny!) SUPER CHARGED! version of the book.

I like Dr. Agatston's tone, and he does in fact, bring up many of the issues that [livejournal.com profile] betacandy has brought up about her doctors--not about other doctors, but about different body types, and the difference between the genetic and nutritional types of body fat (ie, if you have tons of belly fat, it's because your diet sucks--if you have a pear shape, ie, store fat in your thighs and hips, you're healthier, and it's a genetic thing).

What makes this version of the diet super charged! is the inclusion of an exercise routine, stretches, and a schedule for it all.

But the BEST part of the book is the suggested two week meal plan and the included recipes!  What the first two weeks of the plan does is cut out all fruits, all breads, all pasta, all carbs, pretty much. But ONLY for two weeks.  The average weight loss during this period is between 8-12 pounds. And the main point of the first two weeks is to break the habit of needing those carbs and to get them out of your system. By getting all the quick energy carbs out of your system, you can also stabilize you blood levels and possibly edge yourself away from pre-diabetes and diabetes and other problems.

Americans, and others who tend to eat a lot of carbs, especially processed carbs, are slowly killing themselves. And it's NOT all their fault. It's from earlier, faulty knowledge and dietary suggestions. It's an interesting read, really.

Back to the first two weeks. There's a meal schedule guide for each day you start, and after looking at the recipes, wow, they sound great. And most of them are pretty easy to make; the directions are simple and easy to follow.

So, I'll let you know how it goes. If anyone has any questions about this, let me know. The Guy and I are going to start it tomorrow (probably at dinnertime), after I compile the shopping list and buy all the ingredients. And I WILL let you know what my grocery bill for that is--it doesn't look like it's going to be expensive. But just a note: I live in California, which seems to have higher prices for groceries than other parts of the country. At least, that's what my mother tells me everytime she visits. Same as with gasoline.

If you have any questions, like I said, please ask.

Interesting concept. Having tried things in the past that started with some "cleansing" phase I know that I don't do well with anything "structured" like that with a set menu or regimen, but I've also found that what works for one person doesn't work for another. I've only lost 4 pounds now, but it has been a steady progression that has stayed off, so I'm satisfied at this point. And at least my routine hasn't done any harm since I had no problems with my hemoglobin levels when I donated blood last Friday (and I still have more than a month until my annual physical). I'll be interested in seeing how you do

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more" is from Shakespeare's Henry V. :)

I've eaten a lowcarb diet for 4 years now and I've never had such good health as I do now, plus I've lost a lot of weight.

But more importantly, my problems with my stomach, skin, headaches, PMT etc. are just gone.
