Battling WES and a screwy schedule
Apr. 25th, 2009 03:39 pmIt's been over a week since I began my food journal, but because of my wonky electronic scale at home, I'm not sure if there have been any results! I've kept my calorie count under 1500 per day, usually less, but always over 1200 (that would be freaking impossible for me to do). But I also haven't started going to yoga at the YMCA because of morning interference with doctor's appointments (not mine), sick kids, field trips, you name it, as soon as I decide to do something positive for exercise like a class, Murphy steps in and foils it.
Anyhow. The Wonky Electronic Scale (henceforth known as WES) hasn't changed all week from 168.8 pounds. Well, at least for the past four days or so. I have no idea how off it is, since when I started, the YMCA doctor's scale told me I weighed in at a hefty 174. I could not have lost six pounds. Just not gonna happen. I might have to drive off to the Y and check myself on their scale to see if there's been any improvement.
Back to the food diary: I have noticed I feel a bit better having not stuffed myself (too much) with sugars that I'm addicted to, and I don't feel so sludgy, and it's easier to tell when...erm. Let's just say my abdominal cavity doesn't feel so finely packed, eh?
I am *not* keeping to the WW regimen. I think I might have mentioned that I bought the 2009 Calorie King calorie counting book. I have an earlier version from 2006, but this one is much better organized; alphabetically. The older one isn't and it is a pain in the ass to find what you're looking for. The new one? There's a reason for alphabetizing and why it's taught in school. Because it makes SENSE.
The food journal I use isn't one of those dedicated for it. I've discovered over the years that it just creates yet more weight for me to carry in my bag, one more little book to fumble for, and after a while, I stop using it. This time I'm using a daily diary thing that I also use for listing appointments and so forth, and it's always available and I don't feel like leaving it behind. And really: listing down how much food you *should* be eating at these lower calorie counts doesn't take up that much room on a small page.
My pants are still too snug, I still have cottage cheese under my skin...still working on it.

Date: 2009-04-25 11:09 pm (UTC)I do know I'll be "tested" later this coming week when I have a conference in St. Louis to go to and I'll have to make choices at restaurants, so I may just not stress over it and consider this week a "warm-up". I did sign up for a walking-tour in St. Louis to try to work some exercise into the conference (which has too much sitting anyway) but that may just be going through the motions and not serious enough exercise to be worth recording
