Kings: 1

Saturday Night:

The Guy: Rants on about how he doesn't like to bother getting emotionally invested in TV shows these days, because they are inevitably not given a chance by Network Suits to get their legs and gain their audience, and get quickly canceled.

Me: But there's this new show some online friends of mine have been raving about--it's called Kings, and it takes place in an alternate world and---

The Guy: I don't care. It'll be canceled just as I get into it.

Sunday Night:

Me: (checking the schedule around 8pm, I stumble upon a show and start watching it) Thinking: Hey, this IS decent! (Gets up to help a child get ready for bed--pauses the show, digital is GREAT!  Comes back to the couch to see that the Guy is inhabiting now. He unclicks pause, and the show continues)

The Guy: (a few minutes later)  Do you have this series set on record?

Me: Kings? (immediately sets show on series record)

It is an interesting show, isn't it. :)

It is! It's not quite what I thought it would be. The language they use on the show is unlike the language I've heard used on any other show, excepts perhaps a historical drama.

The actors carry it off, though, and the overt presence of the characters' faith in the existence of a God is remarkable (esp for a Network show)--I know there are other shows that use God in the show, like Saving Grace, which I just saw an episode of and was pleasantly surprised. And that Joan of XXX show that was cancelled after two seasons, I think, where SHE saw God, too.

It helps that I know this show is based on a biblical story. Always been a sucker for those, oh yes.

We're really enjoying the show. It's like The West Wing but with more back-stabbing. Hope NBC gives it a chance, though I can see that it probably wont last beyond one season, if that.
