I've been taking a look at my flist recently, and noticed that while I've got a nice list going, that more than a few haven't commented at all in the past few months (or years, even!).  I'm supposing that means I'm not particularly interesting and don't make posts worth commenting about. I don't require constant comments from my flist, but I do like some sense of we're actually friends (on some level), you know?

So, here's the classic "Hey folks, I'm a-thinking of winnowing my flist down!" post that I've seen so many of lately. If you don't think you should be demoted, drop me a line on this post. A couple of people I do know have had a VERY tough year, and I just made contact with them again, so they're staying. Otherwise...speak up! Or forever hold your peace.

Hee! I usually never comment on this type of post. Your flist is your reading list, so it's up to you who's on your flist. If I read a journal, it stays on my flist. I assume that anyone who doesn't want to read my journal defriends me or filters me out. And I hate the idea of begging someone to keep me on their flist, partly because it is *their* flist, not mine. Who am I to say: "Keep me! Read my journal even if it's irrelevant to you or boring"? ;)

But really, I had to comment, because I don't want you to take me off. :-) You are one of the few on my flist that I'd be kind of heartbroken if you took me off. Is it uncool to admit that? *g* I also know my journal is kind of boring, though, so I understand.

This aspect of LJ is always difficult, I think, because of the whole "friend" aspect of it. I wouldn't say that I'm friends with everyone on my flist, but defriending seems to say "You aren't my friend" or "You aren't an important enough friend to keep on my flist" or even "You're boring." heh

ETA: Most people on my flist never, ever comment on my journal. If I made a post like this, I don't think I'd have anyone left on my flist. ;)

LJ is a little weird about this sort of thing. Although it seems like I'm asking folks to beg to stay on, what I really want is to make sure that when I do take folks off my reading list, it's because I haven't heard from them in a while in any capacity. It's also not so much *my* reading list-because not every one posts frequently on their own LJs...but also because if you're on a friend's list, that means you get to read posts that are friends' locked. I have filters, and do sometimes use them, but, as Moonshayde has said, it's not the same thing.

So, it's not exactly what you're talking about. I do have some folks on my list that I have friended, but who have not friended me back. That's okay, because even if they're not interested in what I write, I'm interested in what they write. And they don't want me to read their locked posts. No big deal. Anyone who isn't on the Mutual FL, well, they get to read my public posts. It's not like I don't have a lot of them lately!

And not to worry, you're one of the people I've known for *years* online, and I really hope at some point to meet you in real life (like I've met some of the other folks I've known for years).

Erm...LJ has always felt to me much like a diary, and I've never been much of a diary person. Don't know why...and don't know why I feel rather guilty about that, either. Be that as it may, I do try to post at least occasionally, and more often than that I'm reading my FList. So, I guess what I'm saying is that if you removed me from your list I would miss you...lots.
