He had dinner last night with Mallozzi. Saw the sets. Read some scripts.

Even so, I have very little hopes that this show is going to be any good. It's a step in the right direction (very small step) along with the casting of a reputedly very good actor from across the pond. But still...

Who is John Scalzi?

He's a science fiction writer (and does other sorts of writing as well) who writes military SF with a humorous edge. It makes sense then that the producers of SGU would hire him, because they're essentially trying to write a Heinleinesque show--which is what Scalzi patterns his SF after, only without the super conservatism of Heinlein and without Heinlein's really weird sex concepts.

Oh! If you want to try out his stuff, he's got a free novel out on MobiBooks called Agent to the Stars. It had me laughing my ass off. I thought it was very funny. It's the first novel he wrote (just to see if he could). I recommend it.

I can't find the book available on mobibooks. Owell. I'm sure it must piss off the boys at bridge to NO end that they're having to work with creative consultants on their new baby and hire aging actors and whatnot. ;)

Oh, it should be in the Free Books section-you know where to find it? Hmm. If it's not there...hold on, let me find the link for you:

Here it is!

I guess it's not on the MobiBook page-it's at this other site that has some more up-to-date free stuff.

It being Joe M., I have no idea how much he'll actually *listen* to Scalzi (who actually knows how to write and PLOT and write entertaining characters). Mollozzi is something of a boob and couldn't write a decent female character to have something to screw.

Interesting there's been word on almost everything else except who the young lovelies are that are going to be emoting all over his huge new sets of the ship. Sounds like they're going for that huge Firefly set-thing that Whedon had done for his series.

You know, I'm more entertained by the hoops these idiots are jumping through, trying to get this show moving forward than I would be watching the actual show. *shakes head*

As much as I like Robert Carlyle, this series is still a no-go for me, same as SGA was.

Oh, I might watch the first episode to see what they think they're going for. Trainwreck: you know? Also to see if the baby actors can actually act. I wasn't impressed with Flanigan on Atlantis, either, but at least he developed this mildly interesting vibe. (who knew the guy had what, four children and was a thrill-seeker?)

I wish there'd be some adult SF other than BSG for ADULTS who appreciate a more complex storyline and characterization and know that people under age 30 do not make the world go-round.

Ooooh - interesting

Thanks for the news (and the link to his book) - I like John Scalzi's work.

Hmm - this just increased the chance I might watch this at least once from zero to - oh, 10%.

Thanks also for providing updates.

Hey, you're welcome! I'm getting intrigued enough to watch the first episode. After that? We'll see.

And hey! I like keeping all the folks I've been online friends with for YEARS now up to date. 'Tis fun!
