Huh? Who?

This Star Trek reboot like it's going to kick some major movie ass. The trailer makes it look like a lot of fun. I don't mind seeing a bunch of new actors playing the roles of Kirk, Spock, Bones and all the others. Quinto looks awesome as Spock. The journalists who were invited to check out 20 minutes worth of footage from the new ST are almost all to a man and woman, enthusiastic about the update and the kick-butt scenes Abrams zoomed into the story.

The actor playing Kirk seems to be playing it up, and seems to be enjoying himself a hell of a lot more than the poor actor who's in Twilight playing Edward. Quinto, who campaigned long and hard for the role of Spock since he heard a new movie was in the works, parlayed his hit role on Heroes into THE biggest genre role in SF Media history--and he *looks* it. Make-up did a great job, and the impressions I get from the trailer is, he's also clued in big-time into the original Spock.

I like the new Uhura, too. Especially what the journalists report she's like...but from what I understand, once again a capable woman is drowned under the testosterone of male Starfleet guys looking for a good pounding--of James T. Kirk, pre Cadet. Interesting that in this movie the other crew members have seniority over Kirk, who's a wet behind the ears newbie.

The new design of the Enterprise...so what. It's been modified. It's not like it hasn't been modified before. It's a wonder it's even the same *ship* after all the modifications, you know? It's a nice blending of the ST:TMP Enterprise and the Enterprise Enterprise (did you follow that?), but it's the insides that are really different. I'm not sure whether to consider this a retelling or an AU or an AR! Probably, I'd consider this an AR Enterprise and Star Trek. Fine by me. ST has been stodgy for a long time.

Long live Star Trek!

***I wonder how many Galaxy Quest moments there will be. I hope they avoided them in this movie.

Thanks! I bought that pattern as a "halloween costume" pattern by Simplicity! It's surprisingly accurate, so I spent some extra time making it authentic by adding the piping and mandarin collar. I don't remember where I got the communicator insignia, but the collar pips were a gift. Before Dad took this photo he told me not to stand quite so severe. My response was that it's a military outfit.

I have heard lots of people say they see ST:TNG costumes at Ren Faires, as well as Klingons and such. It's nice that people feel welcome to wear whatever they choose, but it also kinda throws off the spirit of the fair.
