No real spoilers...just my basic review.

Very fun books. I bought the Science Fiction Book Club's 3 in 1 edition (hey, it was a sale price) and ended up staying up until 5am reading it.   ::grumbles::

What I like:
1. Mercy is realistic.
2. The other characters make hard choices as well as Mercy.
3. There is a simple, well-thought out and LOGICAL reason for supernatural beings to "come out" into the public eye.
4. Brigg's treatment of the fae and werewolve's  "coming out" is *realistic* and feels right. I cannot emphasize that enough.
5. The infodumping is handled competently and squeezed in as you read along.
6. The story sticks to the STORY and there is minimal emo-angsting and sex-for-the-sake-of-sex. There IS sex and UST, but it does not overwhelm nor overtake the actual story.
7. Mercy's fae ex-boss is my favorite character (next to Mercy herself)
8. Secondary characters, like Honey, are expanded upon and their relationships change with Mercy, and her opinion changes of them, even if their behaviors don't necessarily change (like Ben).

What I'm not so fond of:
1. More hypermasculine werewolves where women are the dirt of the pack...why? Okay, I *know* why, but in natural wolf packs, I thought the female Alpha had some power, too.
2. How all the superpowerful Alphas go afte/for Mercy. It's not that she's an unattractive character. Tellingly, she doesn't think she's All That, which is a breath of fresh air, let me tell you!
3. How the second-in-command local Vamp ALSO has a thing for Mercy. Having said that, Briggs weaves it in naturally.
4. How (although I know it's a standard plot device) everyone else EXCEPT Mercy seems to know about what she is, and she doesn't.

Overall, though, the negatives are relatively minor in that I forgive them because of the way the books and characters are written and Briggs has the sort of writerly touch I like. I know there's a fourth book coming out, and I'm waiting for it. Aside from the incessant werewolf dominant stuff (that does get tiring) I think I like this series and character as much as I like Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. Yay!
