Oh my.

How nice (in a not-nice way) to see people in an Etiquette forum dog-piling on a poster instead of approaching the person reasonably. And yes, apparently it does matter if you snark, or talk to, a mod in the "wrong tone". It gets you banned. Mods are more speshuller than other people in the forum, because I guess the other people in the forum are unable to actually notify the mods when posts are posted in the "wrong tone" and instead go "ha-ha!" to posters they can't deal with about "now the mods are gonna get you!" if the poster doesn't toe the line.

And accusations by mods (in any capacity) are de rigeur. It's fortunate that the poster who was accused by a mod of inconsistency in her views on children was able to fend off the accusations without causing a banning of herself. Yes, especially since she'd just been greeted back into the fold after missing for many months.

Mods are human. But in Etiquette Land, they're more equal than everyone else. Some things never change.

Uh oh...is it happening again? I haven't been back since the great Delphi disaster, so I have no idea what's up over there.

Hard to say if it's happening again. This is the Modern Et forum. I've commented on it before (I think I linked all the posts together with the e-hell forum tag) and it was amazing how the new open-minded mods, who were banned from the e-hell forum, became the pigs all over again (shades of 1984 by Orwell).

Yeah, it still happens, but in this case, it's limited to one thread at this time. The bannings only seem to happen when someone questions the forum about its behaviors, or points out how some people are always More Right than others.

The thread I'm talking about here is the reason why the posting count went UP, too. A little contraversy helps!

Sounds like an interesting place...

Wow. And I thought fandom got hysterical.

This etiquette forum must be a different sort of place if inconsistency is a thought-crime.

Heh, fandom is only the tip of the iceberg. People are the same all over, doesn't matter what the subject is.

You, um...still read and post over at Modern...? *ahem* I haven't been back since right after the new one was set up. I saw the same thing you did: things never change, no matter what the venue or who's running it. Sometimes the level of insanity so overpowered the level of reason that I just had to tune it out. I'm much happier now hanging our with a group of really nice cyber-friends. :)

I admit -- I got sucked back in two or three weeks ago (I think) and yeah, I'm over it now. I am compelled to go back and lurk at sites sometimes to see if the overall tone has changed. (and I couldn't resist the For Better or For Worse thread)

In this case, I thought it had because HU was no longer moderating, and the level of aggression and hysteria she brought to it died down. So, yeah, hoped. But then I found out she was expecting, with all the signs of first-mom-self-centeredness I've seen in certain types of first-timers.

Anyhoo, I've taken it off my Delphi list. Now I just have to break the habit with one or two other forums I used to frequent...but that's hard, because I know some of my LJ friends, who *also* used to frequent one of those forums, are drawn back as if to a car accident. It's a difficult habit to break!
