Oh, for heaven's sake - I tried looking for an open campsite near Santa Barbara (like Refugio State Park) and can't believe it's already completely reserved for the entire bleeping Summer! I then checked out other campsites in the area (state parks and such) and they are ALL reserved in advance! Bloody hell. Going to check if there's a KOA in the area. Sheesh.
I guess next year if I want to go camping up that way, I should make the reservations 9 months in advance!

Date: 2008-06-03 05:54 pm (UTC)I think I'm going to put up a sticky-note reminder for next summer: make reservations in NOVEMBER to get a camping site on one of the beach parks.
However: I found out about McGrath Park, which is only an hour away from where I live (good), has a nature trail and is reknown for birds in the next-door sanctuary (even better) and has the ocean only 400 yards away (best!) so that you can *hear* the ocean while you're in your tent, but you can't see it.
I also made a four night reservation at the end of June for Sequoia Nat'l Park. It'll be COLD at night, but we'll bring lots of blankets.
And the other times we go camping, we'll probably stay at a KOA. I love camping, but the kids and camping do wear me out. Four is probably over my limit, but without the Guy there it should be easier to deal with stuff, like food. He prefers to eat out all the time, which negates the $$$-saving aspect of camping!
