What IS it with them? What is this pathological NEED to have every character paired up like Noah's Ark? What is this need for only romance satisfying a great relationship, which doesn't necessarily mean kissing and batting eyes and eventually, sex and star crossed love.
WTF? WTF? (me) And a big thanks to Nathan Brazil for the stress inoculation about the romantic direction on Torchwood. The scene in the morgue drawer was foreshadowing—but EW! I find no chemistry between Gwen and Owen. Then again, when they show Gwen and Owen, it's after sex—no attempt to show chemistry between them. To my side of the ledger, when the Torchwood team was camping out, Gwen was reluctant to admit to the kiss in front of Jack, looking to see his reaction, so I don't think I'm imagining the chemistry there. Because of the flirtation between Jack and Martha Jones in Doctor Who, maybe they're planning for a dalliance in that direction in the second season/series—which would mean putting Gwen aside for the duration. Someone needs to touch Captain Jack's heart. | |

Sorry for the repeat of the letter (LJ won't let me delete the extra bits) but for crying out loud, how sacchrine can you get? Yeah Lady, Jack is OMNI sexual. Meaning, he likes *everything*. And she doesn't mention how the Doctor seems to be quite more than taken with Jack himself in the last few epsisodes of Dr Who this past season. I'd say the Doctor sounded almost jealous. Yes indeedy.
:::facepalm::: Yeah, I'll take the Guy's suggestion and NOT read any more of this woman's letters on SciFi's website.

Date: 2007-10-26 08:25 pm (UTC)And it's not just when fans like this Lurv-obssessed woman do it - it's when producers and writers do it to their charactes as well, shoving characters together willy-nilly (Peter&Tiresome!Irish-doxy; Claire&Stalker!West)

Date: 2007-10-26 10:01 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, many shippers go beyond "They're flirting, let the sex begin!" to "They're looking at each other, let the sex begin!"
Granted, slashers have much the same reaction, but we don't expect to see it onscreen, and have a hell of grand time with it in fic despite (or maybe because of) the lack of canon "proof" many shippers crave.
I've been really surprised by the number of people who've liked West. I think time spent with him and Claire grinds the story to a halt (just like with Peter and the Irish chick), and that's not even factoring in the whole stalker issue. I have hopes that the writers are going to make him a plant for the Company or something. ;)

Date: 2007-10-27 06:05 am (UTC)That's what really bugs me: that very traditional "Then you fall in love and get married and all your problems are solved". I like stories that dig into what does and doesn't work in a particular relationship. I don't like stories that just salute the institution of traditional het dating and marriage. Just tell me the goddamn story and I'll salute whatever I feel like.
