Those Giant Coconut Crabs - someone on my flist (sorry, I can't remember who exactly at this time of night!) posted a Wiki entry about this gigantic fake looking thing. Well, someone took a picture of one hanging on a garbage can. OMG. It's huge and scary looking. Honest to god, click on the link and you won't be disappointed. It's a MONSTER.

And I still think they're cool.

It IS cool. It's just...freaking scary to run into something like that hanging off a trashcan!

I saw another picture where one was climbing up some guy. Apparently, they can be trained. Isn't that awesome? *bounces*

I imagine myself, early in the morning (around 6:45am) not quite awake, going outside to move the garbage cans to the curb, and realizing with that suddeness that only a shock of awakeness can do to you, that there *something alive hanging off your garbage can, and it's moving!

Brrr.

Oh my word, that's insanely big and scary! *shudders*

Hee, I love this comment on that page

Uummm... hi! Mind if I use your trashcan today? Mine's...uummm... scary.

I thought the comments with drawn butter were amusing. Okay. Sure, but who's gonna kill it?

Yup. Apparently Firefox thinks it's funny to randomly log me out.

That's a big-assed crab. I hope, too, it's the biggest land-dwelling arthro-whatsis.

[edges subtly away from the garbage can, wondering what John Sheppard would do.]

I wish it were. I'm seeing more of these things on the internet. How soon do you think they'll be extinct now that the world knows about 'em? Because, you know: foodies.

That is just...holy moly. You should have heard my shriek when I saw the land crawling with them! Every year? OMG.

(original post deleted because I had the wrong pronoun where "you" is)

Freaky aren't they? Christmas Crabs aren't edible though. Coconut Crabs are though. Still, the big ones are very old, I'd feel guilty eating them (plus they look disgusting).
