Where are those flying cars we were promised?

Remember way back when, Buck Rogers, Heinlein and all those other SciFiGuys predicted the wave of the future was going to be flying cars? (there was even a line in a movie/TV show I saw recently where a character asked, "where are the flying cars?") Well, here is a flying car...or is it a driving plane? You decide! Pretty cool stuff, I think.

I think it was right before the turn of the millennium, and he was standing by a window or on a street with normal wheeled jobbies whizzing by, saying "Where are the hovercars? We were promised hovercars!"

Ad for auto insurance? I don't remember that bit, for which the appropriate ad agency should so totally be fired.

Anyway, that prototype is verrry interesting. There's a whole bedroom community somewhere between my parents in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and San Francisco where hangar-sized garages are standard issue on the homes so people can taxi right out and fly to the City. Cool if we could do away with the real estate-eating storage facility!

Yeah, I figured if they're building a convergent machine like this that they've done their market research to find communities like the one you mentioned: near small airports, little access to major airports...

The carplanes are kind of pricey, though. I don't know how they compare with a used Cessna, for instance, but if you didn't have to pay for a car in addition to an airplane, it might be a savings. But its like watching a bat crawl around on the ground.

I take it back, the ad is for IBM software, and he is saying "flying cars."

The article has a link to the full ad! :D

Cool! I remember that Avery Brooks ad. BUT I *know* there was a line in a movie or a television show recently that had a similiar line, too. I think it was a comedy, but I'm not sure. I'll have to ask the Guy: he has a much better memory than I do.
