Hey-o! Does anyone on my flist have the Kingdom Hospital series on DVD (region 1) that they'd like to get rid of?

Failing that, who's seen the miniseries, and what did you think?

Don't have it, but I did see the series. We are talking about the Stephen King one, right?

I thought it was okay. I liked parts of it and other times I felt it was off. Almost like the series was trying too hard or had too many tones working at the same time. The dark humor didn't always mesh with the atmosphere they tried to create. But it was enjoyable. Lots of New England jokes in it.

That's the one. I've missed it *every time* it's been on SciFi Channel; I'll need to set our DVR to record it the next time it comes around. I've read some reviews that characterize it as very bizarre.

Unfortunately, the original Belgian series which this one is derived from isn't really available on DVD - well, it is, but it's not the entire series, it's a selection, and there are a few other things wrong with it (the DVD's).

Give a miss to Stephen King's version, in which he totally butchers a completely fantastic Danish miniseries. See if you can find DVDs or something of the original, which I think in English was just called "The Kingdom". It's utterly fantastic. All Stephen King did was duplicate the original and do some total self-insertion with a writer character. Bleh. And okay, possibly I have strong feelings on this subject. I loved the original miniseries and was excited to see a reinterpretation of it so I was depressed when it turned out to be unwatchable rubbish. :D

The Danish title of the original was "Riget," if that helps. My old roommate had tapes of it or something, I think, so I'm not sure how widely available it is. It's super-double-awesome, though. ;)
