Hey!  Nialla42! I have that link for you about Tapping's Sanctuary re: where Hewlett denies "rumors" that he is a recurring character. He's pretty definite about it.

And I hope I don't break any netiquette doing this, but here's the direct quote from his webpage. Seems like the PTB of Sanctuary are trying to get Hewlett fans involved in the show - in an underhanded manner, by claiming that he's "recurring".

First off, yes I am a part of Sanctuary, but no I am not a regular or a recurring character. I had the pleasure of playing, what I would call a cameo (others would call it a bit part) as a nasty serial killer with a bad attitude. Kavan was there with me and he makes a great hard nose cop (really, he has a very hard nose) It's two scenes and is NOT several episodes as has been reported elsewhere (it's not their fault, they were just a little quick on counting me in without counting on my schedule... as Bob Hope said "if I had my life to live again, I wouldn't have time to do it"). 

Funny how, if it's a mistake and TPTB jumped the gun, that they're still insisting on their casting lists to the press and GW that Hewlett is, indeed, playing a recurring role. Hmm. Do they think Tapping's not enough of a draw?

TPTB might be hoping that they will be able to bring him back in the future, even though at this time they don't have a definite date(s). Hope springs eternal and all that... :)

Hoping or not, it makes them out as opportunistic liars. You don't claim someone is going to be in a show before the deal is hammered out.

The reason Hewlett is going on line (IMO) and saying this, is so that HE doesn't end up looking like the asshole and bad guy actor if it doesn't turn out to be true.

Not only that, but they're describing the male lead as a "Young Michael Shanks" and show a photo of him with Michael's short hair and wearing glasses, AND that we're going to love him....

I understand the tack Kindler ? was taking with that claim - he was, after all, writing or being interviewed for Gateworld, where, presumably, the fans there don't know any other actors or desire any other actors other than the ones on Stargate. KWIM? lol

I saw that article, too. I thought it was pathetic.

I have the blog feed in my LJ flist, but for some reason it wasn't showing up... until the most recent post. No idea if it'll continue to show up though.

It's possible the interviews and such were already done before they knew David wasn't going to be involved beyond the pilot episode, but even so, you'd think they'd clear that up on their blog.

Though the horse is already out of the barn now. Once word spreads that David's in it, it's much harder to correct it and say that he's not, and a lot of people are going to assume he'll be in several episodes and will be disappointed if that was their main reason for watching.

I've got a Google News Alert set up for Sanctuary, and I was amused by one fan equating AT's overexposure to the "Benifer" phenomena. It's very similar -- force feed me something I don't like over and over again, and I definitely won't like it.

By not correcting their casting claim mistake, the producer/director/writers/star of the show will end up looking like idiots.

But I suppose that's nothing new with the Bridge folks, eh?

Maybe they figure any Hewlett fans who tune in to see him will just be so jaw-droppingly impress with the show in general, they'd tune in even without David as a draw.

Bennifer is a reference to BEN Affleck and JenNIFER Lopez, back in the day. It's become common for the media to refer to celebrity couples with a cutesy smooshed name. But weeks and months of the media pushing them as "news" was enough to make me break out in hives after a mere mention of them. Same with AT. I don't hate her, but the more she gets pushed by Bridge and those who make up Bridge, the less I want to see of her.
