Donnie Darko (2001)
Sep. 15th, 2009 07:02 pmThe guy went and bought a two-set of Blu-ray movies: Donnie Darko and Silence of the Lambs.
I've read about Donnie Darko after I got hooked on the Tears for Fears song that it uses on the soundtrack.
Wow! I had no idea there were so many currently known stars in that movie! Jake and Maggie Gyllinhall (spelled wrong, sorry), Mary McDonald (the prez on BSG), Patrick Swayze, lots of names and faces.
And it was *good*. Off-beat, left a lot of questions, but you could pick a theory (any theory) and it would work. Was Donnie schizophrenic and imagining everything? Did he go back in time and then forward to sacrifice himself? Did it all take place in the split second before he died?
It's set in 1988, and from what I remember, it covered the period pretty well, down to the hairstyles of big, but not unrealistically big hair, and the clothing. The color choices were strange, darkened blacks and intensified colors.
