Goldy Update #4
Jul. 22nd, 2006 08:00 am - and it turned out that the Guy had called only minutes before. Goldy seemed to respond to the amoxicillin. The vet asked one of us to come into the office and try to feed him some real meat; if he ate some, then he could come home.
Around 6pm, Guy called me on the cell phone and told me that Goldy had eaten a couple small bits of meat, but that he wasn't back to his usual self but *was* perkier than before. And he also brought Goldy home. The vet told him to feed him only meat (Goldy's hope and joy at mealtimes) but he only ate a couple of bits before retiring to lie down. :-(
We got home around 9pm and yay! Goldy was at the front door greeting us as usual, only a bit stiffer and restrained, and then he and Mermaid and her friend (whom he adores) snuggled happily on the rug for a while, all cuddled into a heap of girl and dog. His expression was blissful.
The vet didn't know what was causing the intestinal bleeding (well, the bleeding could have come from any organ, really, just ending up in the intestine). He suggested it might be a reaction to the change in dogfood (I usually feed him high quality Nutra-stuff from the pet shop, not the kibble crap from the grocery store that Guy bought him when we were at Morro Bay). That might be. But I've never heard of that kind of reaction to changed food. He's been eating the grocery store kibble for about two-three weeks. Hmm.

Date: 2006-07-22 07:39 pm (UTC)I didn't realize until yesterday how much I missed not having him come to the door to greet us (his self-appointed job), or when he lies down under my computer desk, or follows me into the bedroom to keep me company when I go to bed (he moves around the house after I fall asleep).
He's getting many hugs and strokes today. Oh yes.

Date: 2006-07-22 07:42 pm (UTC)We're starting to think that perhaps his habit of eating (avert your eyes if you don't want to deal with grossness) used pull-ups may have caught up with him. I don't think it was the change of food. I think the two pull-ups he got to earlier in the week, that I TOTALLY forgot about, may have caused a bad reaction, or blocked him up temporarily. Those things are nasty bags of chemicals.

You know I care too much about animals and I appreciate people who like animals because I know those people have a lot of empathy in their hearts. :)) *hugs*
