Saturday night Guy and I nearly had heart attacks when the A/C apparently stopped working (this is during a heat wave where it rarely goes below 95F) late Saturday evening. We opened up the filter thingy and discovered it was clogged and filthy with dog hair and stuff. I really need to vacuum more often! But aside from that, we'd realized it's been at least two, three years since we had someone do a check-up on it.

Sunday morning Mermaid and I drove over to the local OSH store, and I picked up a superdooper antiAllergen filter. Soon after plunking that into the filter slide (arrow facing up to follow the airflow, naturally) the A/C started working *fine*. There was airflow, coolness, etc. Huh. Okay. I've now got a once-a-month appointment listed on my PDA calender to remind me to change the silly thing once a month. But we do still need someone to do a check on it, sometime.

I share your pain. Saturday evening I realized it hadn't gotten below 80 degrees all day in my apartment with it being over 90 outside. I called my apartment manager and they had it fixed by Sunday evening. I love my a/c!

It's been so hot here lately (in the mid 90s to low 100s) that I keep the thermostat at 80F most of the time. Guy turns it down when he gets home - but our house tends to collect heat during the day, so it does get REALLY hot in the late afternoon, early evening.

Oh, I'm glad it's not broken! Ours cost us a million dollars to get fixed. (Okay, only about $1200, but that was bad enough. *g*)

We use those special allergy filters, too. They really help. We only change them every couple of months, though more frequently in the summer.

Vacuum more often? What's that? *g*
