Camera or not camera...that is the question

I've been browsing camera websites, researching, questing...I feel like a photographic Diogenes, trying to find the one honest camera that fits all my requirements. I think I found one, but...it's hard ... I want it, but it's not a necessity, and there's camp to think of, and this camera would eat batteries like a vampire drinks blood, and it would need a new SD chip of at *least* half a gig with extra speed on it.

Here it is: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/S2IS/S2ISA.HTM
Canon Powershot S2 IS: it's got a 12x telephoto optical lens, image stabilizer and tons of sweet, sweet features. It's not exactly a pocket camera, but it does do video with *stereo* sound.

*sighs*

OOoh, now I want this camera, too!

I have a Canon Powershot G2, and I absolutely love it--and it still works great. It doesn't have the lovely telephoto lense, though. It also cost almost twice as much as this new camera. *g* The new one even has the flip-out, swivel LCD, which is one of the best features of the G2 over other digital cameras that don't have that feature, I think.

Very cool. I may not ever get another new thing ever until the kids both graduate from college, though. *g* Whose summer camp? *g*

My friend [livejournal.com profile] goodiesfan has that model, and loves it! You can see some of her nature shots on her LJ. I went with the Sony Cybershot DSC-H1 (http://imaging-resource.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=7368629/search=Sony+Cybershot+DSC-H1), which has many similar features. I love it to bits.

ah, but cameras are indeed a necessity. i've been happily surprised at how long the canon i've got goes with one battery charge. and the image stabilization is wonderful.
