::facepalm::

I sent in the money for the Guy's car registration before it was due, but then the State sent a little notice a few weeks ago that the car had to pass a smog check. Okay, no problemo. Go forth, Guy, and get the smog check! Soo....the registration ran out on April 7th, and according to the paper the DMV sent, the car can still be pulled over and impounded until we get the little sticker and paper in the mail...THIRTY DAYS FROM THE PASS-CHECK! What does the Guy ask me to do tomorrow? Take the car to the smog test center. Great. Now *I too* can have the opportunity to be pulled over by one of California's Finest. (I hope they don't hold that missed donation to the Police charity against me.)

How FUCKED is THAT?

(and if you don't pass, then I guess you're SOL)

If it doesn't pass, go to the DMV and ask for an extension...or whatever they call it. They'll give you a big UGLY square sticker to put on the window that'll keep the police from stopping you since the fees are already paid.

I've been through that before. I've also been stopped, in the distant past for it. They didn't take my car, but the tickets are EXPENSIVE.

However, now I drive a Prius and don't have to have smog checks any more. Whew!'

GOOD LUCK!

If the car *does* pass, do they put a sticker on the car, too, so you don't get ticketed? Cuz, that would be SO unfair if you paid your registration, AND passed their smog check, if you got pulled over before you got the stupid little sticker to put on your plate.

I had a friend who did what QOTS is recommending - this was recent, too. It's like, I dunno... like the state is purposely holding up registrations so they can charge people for those tickets? ::whistles innocently::

That sucks.
