I used to always enjoy participating in the Secret Santa thingies we did at my offices -- but it always felt like I got rooked, quite honestly. I'd go all out to try to surprise the person I was the Secret Santa for and I'd look for things on their list. And the person who was *my* Secret Santa wouldn't ever seem to go to much (if any) effort at all.
Even the last time I participated in an office gift exchange I ended up rooked -- I had a halfway nice present in my hands and at the last second the boss said "Now everyone has to exchange with someone two people down!" And I ended up with *my own gift* back! Yup. The one I'd purchased and brought! Which was something nice but, uh, it kind of took the fun out of the process. LOL. Oh, well. At least it *was* something nice that I took back home.
