It took me a looooong time to get over my first, bestest dog's death back when I was 19. We'd had him from puppyhood, and he was 13 years old. I still miss him, & I wonder if part of my grief over Goldy is because I never completely finished with Terhune (the earlier dog).
Either way, I'm going to miss Goldy for a while, too. :(
