Never a dull moment at our house. Oh no. It would be NICE to have a dull moment again.

Goldy (see icon) has been running into things more often recently. This afternoon I took a closer look at him when he came in from outside, squinting with both eyes. Looking closer, his right eye had been scratched-badly-and I had to take him into see the vet. He's got ulcerated eyeball. The vet prescribed antibiotic eyedrops, told me to put them in his eye twice a day for 10 days, and bring him back in five days (that would be Tuesday next week). His cataracs are getting worse, which is why he's banging into corners and walls-not so much the walls, but it happens-and door frames.

Poor guy. I'm sure it hurts like hell, but he's not really reacting much to it. I can't imagine what it feels like.

Well, if it feels the same for dogs that it does for humans, it hurts. A whole hell of a lot. Be glad you can't imagine it. :)

Max did the walk-around-blindly-into-furniture thing for a few years. His wasn't cataracts, though. He just went blind on his own. Sometimes I'd swear even he would laugh about it, when he walked into a wall that had always been there.

Poor boy!

My neighbor's dog had an ulcerated eyeball, and I think it was also connected to a cataract. (only in one eye though, so he could still see.) All I remember is that she needed help putting in the drops a couple days when her husband was away, because Emma wouldn't sit still, so I went over as a dog-hugger.

I hope Goldie heals quickly!

Goldy's amazing. He doesn't show that he's hurting at all. No rubbing it, nothing. But it could be it's just one more pain amongst other pains, and so he doesn't respond to it. I've had crap trapped under contact lenses, and styes in my eyes, and so forth, so yes, I CAN imagine it. I just don't want to imagine Goldy being in that kind of pain. At this stage in his life, he just doesn't deserve it.

Anyway, the antibiotic eyedrops seem to be helping, but I won't know for sure for a few days.

Fortunately, he's being a good sport about letting me put the drops in his eyes. I still need the Guy helping me, though, because he would squirm away if he could, but he's such a mild guy, and feeling so crappy, what else is he going to do?

I'll give your hugs to Goldy. Poor mutt. He's such a calm sweety.
