The Evangelizers are on the prowl

This is the second time this week my neighborhood's been targeted by evangelical religious types. Usually, they're all really nice (even the Scientologists) but since I'm feeling off this morning-headache, grungy, egh ugh, KWIM? I refused to answer the door. Fortunately, the Guy called here on his way out to work to give me a heads' up. Sure 'nuff, a group of very nicely dressed people were across the street. They're probably from one of the Baptist churches around here. They also usually bring a few children with them, too, which makes me wonder exactly what they're trying to teach their kids.

A few days ago, two men came to the door and gave me a copy of The Watchtower (too bad it wasn't a Stephen King excerpt from The Dark Tower series...oh well), and were also polite, although one of them started in on a spiel about the garden of Eden and questioning whether I thought of it as a myth or historical fact when I said I wasn't religious. *facepalm*  I told him I thought it was a little of both. In my point of view, the bible is kind of like an ancient game of telephone---many of the stories have a basis in fact, but over the millenia, seriously, the facts of the story are going to be molded differently by hundreds of people before they're written down.

Anyway. Why does spring have to bring the evangelicals out? Do their flowers unfurl and release them like dandelion fluff?

Game of telephone! I'm going to use that now! (You don't mind, do you?)

I haven't seen any evangelicals around here for decades. Then again, they probably think liberal Massachusetts is godless anyway.

Really? When we lived there, we had tons and tons. I lived on Cape Cod, though, and there was a Jehova's Witness church in my town. I worked nights and had two babies and they would not leave me to nap in peace. I just had to be polite, though, so even though I never let them in, they'd keep me talking at the door for hours and I couldn't get anything done. It upset me and stressed me out so much. Did they really think that was going to convert me? I would tell them I was really busy and had the kids and had to clean up or get ready for work or whatever, and they would just keep talking to me, and I just couldn't bring myself to slam the door in their faces.

Now, though, I just don't open the door, but if they catch me off-guard, I have no problem telling them to get lost.

Once someone came to my mother-in-law's house when we were there. They asked toolman if he was saved, so he said, "Yes!" lol And they left.

Really! Maybe it's just my town? There's really no easy public transportation to get here, so it could be that it's just too difficult for door-to-door evangelicals (or any kind of salesmen) to get here. Half the town doesn't even have sidewalks. Town Hall has big "No Solicitation" signs up on the door...could it be that the whole town is under some kind of anti-solicitation rule?

I remember getting Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses in Vermont when I was a kid, but never here.

It's okay though...I'm happy not seeing them!
