gategrrlIt's amazing what you find in an abandoned cabinet in a living room.
I've been thinking of cleaning this thing out for a long time, and finally bit the bullet. There were two boxes. One box held a pair of jeans that I loved in the late early 80s. But I ruined them when I painted dragons on the ass. Check it out:
Oh, don't get me wrong-I love the paintings (in acrylic paint). But after I wore them once to school, and got tons of stares, that was it. They went into retirement.
There was also a vintage dress in the box, too. I bought in the mid 80s at a thrift shop. I fell in love with the color, the lace, the quality, the pearl edgings...but no tag. Nothing to identify if it was a designer dress, or one that a talented sewer made at home. It's really incredible.
See what I mean?
If anyone knows anything about dresses, can you please tell me anything you might know about a dress like this? I'm willing to part with it, as well. I think I wore it only a couple of times. It's in great shape.
There were also a couple of pillows that my grandmother had decorated with embroidered puppies on one, and kittens on another.
Tons of dried out water and guache tubes. :-{. Tossed. I kept the expensive brushes, though. I haven't touched them in over 20 years.
And tons more papers and extra photos that I kept partly because I didn't know of they were going to be needed later (hah!). Most of them, I threw out. There were also slides that I forgot were there. They're keepers; some of them were from my childhood, and I don't want to throw those out! They're going to be scanned.
Copies of stories I wrote back in the 80s. I wondered where those went. Now I know. And they're back in the box.
Next, I have to tackle the cabinet NEXT to the one I just kinda-sorta cleared out. Believe me, there's a huge bag filled with tossed stuff just from one cabinet.
Oh, and I cleared out a bunch of books off the shelves to hand over to the Friends of the Library bookstore in Northridge. I'll let my neighbor have a go at them, first, though.
