It's gotten to the point where I get a call almost every day, sometimes twice a day, from various charities (police, fire fighters, leukemia, veterans, you name it, they've called my number) that I've finally started telling these callers I don't give to charities who call me up anymore. At all. And at least I'm nice about it. The Guy just hangs up on them.

Of course, the one that really beat my door down was KPCC, the local NPR radio station which I've sent a membership in for last year. I hadn't renewed this year because, well, other expenses, dudes; but I was planning on it. What I got was a really persistent fundraiser caller. She called almost every other day, it seemed. I have cell phone records to prove it. Constantly, until I said I didn't have the money, and I didn't want to put it on my credit card and blah blah blah.  She agreed to have an envelope sent to me (but I'd have to pay all at once instead of in easy smaller installments, dontcha know).   I still haven't figured out whether or not to call and complain or not. I think I will, because honestly, it was reaching harassment levels, IMO. At least now I'm not being called. I have the envelope sitting on my desk.

I understand that charities and nonprofits are hurting badly. But I do go and check online about how valid or how well a particular charity works (there are websites to find that out) and discovered that most of the ones that call me...just don't have good records. Some have okay records, but most do not. Also, they lie. They'll make it sound like you've given to them before when you haven't; they'll be all friendly and make you feel guilty, and I cannot stand that any longer. When most of the income from mailed in donations goes to the company the charity has hired to make the calls to generate the income, screw that!  It doesn't help when I investigate some of these "charities" and discover most of them aren't even located in my neck of the woods. They're mostly in New York or New Jersey or Chicago or somewhere NOT in California, where I'd be more likely to support a charity.

"I don't donate to charity phone calls." Hang up.

Seriously going to start keeping records from now on. And start complaining.
