More car stuff
Jul. 17th, 2009 06:09 pmThe discount on the transmission, according to my invoice, is a one-time thing. So if it fails again at a later date (but past the guarantee of 12,000 miles) then it all falls on me.
The cracked whatever it is really does need fixing sometime soon, so maybe in three or four months I'll tackle that. Meanwhile, the Guy's 1998 Toyota Sienna needs a crapload of work on its front axel, somewhere in the range of 3 grand. Plus just about all of the door handles have broken to some degree, or completely. Those need fixing, too. It's amazing how far this formerly-in-demand minivan's value has fallen, according to the Bluebook. At this point, it's worth maybe $2 or $3k, if we're lucky. But as I pointed out to him a couple nights ago, it's still cheaper than buying a whole nother car. Getting into debt yet again when we're not ready is not a good idea. I'd rather we pay for these repairs, and save up as much as we can toward newer used cars. I'd love me a Rav4 or a...something like that.
The bill for this fix on my car at the Honda dealer came out about $250/300 less than they'd told me it would be--and then I looked at the recommended fixes for later on, including the cracked manifold. Yeah, I can see why it was that much less.
