Day One- the low-carb diet start-up
Jun. 1st, 2009 07:02 pmThe first day is going okay. So far. I went to the store and bought some supplies: veggies, beans--watch out! and low-fat cheeses because I'm a cheese 'ho. And so I made my first SBD dinner, which was basically a slightly spiced omelette made with sweet onions-won't use those again because they're too sweet-and thawed out artichoke hearts.
Earlier in the day I threw together three little lettuce leaf wraps. Smoked deli sliced turkey and avocado slices on the leaves. And ate them. They held me over for about three hours, when I snarfed down a stick of low-fat cheddar cheese. And damn if that wasn't tasty!
Breakfast was really lunch, because I had to go in for a blood test and had to fast. I went in to get the blood samples drawn at 9:30am ish and ended up sitting on the chair around 11:30. Thank heavens the technician was so good at her job, because I was really starting to feel a little faint from lack of food. Seeing blood would have sent me over the edge. But, I didn't see the blood, her needle was *painless*, and I wish I were the Mermaid, because I swear, I think I would have hugged the woman if it had been appropriate!
Oh yeah. Breakfast/Lunch was miniwheats. I couldn't help it! It was there, it was *easy*, and damn, was I hungry!
I've been doing some research on low-carb diets online, and it turns out that About.com has some wonderful pages on it, and a few other diets. The dietician who writes the articles points out inconsistencies within the SBD, goes over the Sugar Buster's diet (which is a variation but has a different philosphy behind it) and the Atkins, as well as others. Laura Dolson is her name-and it's nice to hear another viewpoint from a dietician who eats a low glycemic diet herself. She also has a blog, which I'm reading right now.
I'm hoping by Thursday that I'll have dropped a little bit! I know, four days...we'll see.
