Major epic fail on my new pretty show (okay, the *really* new pretty show would be Supernatural, but Mentalist is right there, too).
Anyway, so, this guy is bomb explodeyed and Jane, the main character, goes blind (all artfully without any scarring or any particular reason except perhaps his retinas got burned but okay--one mustn't mess up the Jane pretty!). The team goes all researchy and asks the wife of the exploded man who particularly hated him, and she points out this specific guy who actually came to their house and threatened her now rest-in-pieces husband.
The guy is now a bouncer at a Club (the kind you always see in TV land, but I've never seen personally). There's the tall white dude cop, and his boss, the much smaller girl cop. The suspect is a black guy (and the actor seemed familiar to me, I'll have to look him up on IMDB). The big white male cop then pushes him. The black male suspect PUSHES HIM BACK. And then the suspect looks at the little white woman boss cop, asks her, "So what are YOU going to do?" And what does she do?
She tasers him. TASERS him. No warrant out for his arrest. No nothing. He didn't start anything. But he gets knocked down to the ground, shocked by the taser.
Later at the interrogation room, the black male suspect is there alone with the big white male cop being questioned. No lawyer. Nothing. No doctor...say what?
First huge epic fail. I realize the cop shows I watch play fast and loose with the rules of evidence (especially this show), with miranda rights (didn't hear any said before the guy was tasered) and other procedurals. Mentalist is a huge cop procedural fantasy. But holy crap.
The other epic plot fail is one that has, apparently, been building up for a few episodes. The other pretty red-headed cop is dating this mysterious guy---and it turns out the ONLY reason he'd dated her (and blew up that other guy in the beginning of the show) was to get near Jane. Uh. Aren't there easier methods? You know. Like becoming a neighbor? In this case, the crazed psycho dude dated the cop because she and big white guy cop have a THING for each other! And big male cop got beat up by the smaller psycho kid! Really!
Ugh. Seriously. If I'm going to watch fantasy in the real world, I'd really prefer that the writers of a show, particularly one based in California in the LA area, realize what they're doing when they show a black man being casually zapped without any due process. It's a pretty serious topic. People have DIED getting zapped by cops. Hell, been SHOT by cops around here. At the drop of a hat!
And stupid UST carried over, with the star-crossed lovers.

I know this is a current hit show. I just wish it would stop being so STUPID.
