Mermaid wants to go see this seminal preteen/teen/hormonal-married-woman movie. So, I'm going to go with (another) adult (male, and the father of-) her friend, and two other friends.  Yeah. It'll be interesting to see how bad the story is, firsthand. I usually have little to no interest in "One and Only Soul Mate" romances...and with a dead guy who sparkles in the sunlight (?). How can he be a vamp if he doesn't go poof! in the daylight?

The news interviewed a bunch of girls and adult women (you'd think they were adult, but I don't know...one of them gushed about how she'd LOVE to do Edward) who were behaving as if the Beatles were in town, or Mick Jagger. It was *weird*.

I'll let you know what my reaction is tomorrow after the morning matinee. I don't promise to be fair, but I'll try, since I *know* I am not the audience for whom this movie and book series is meant.

I think you should review it on Hathor. It's a guess, but it could be rife with, uh, interesting feminism topics.

I dunno. I'm really not an analytical writer. I'm more emotional and often don't make logical sense (a Vulcan would *not* love me). But maybe.

I might review Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson books, though.

I just got home from seeing it with some of my co-workers. I did read the book, so I'll be interested to see what you think, since you didn't.

Look for young Jack! (Michael Welch) He plays Michael, a regular teen with a crush on Bella. I didn't recognize him at first; he looks different. Older, and bulkier. And blonder. (I told my friends I thought he would have made a better Edward, but was voted down.)

Prepare for very loud music at all the significant emotional points. I wanted to put my hands over my ears, it was so much louder than the dialogue.

I went this evening. In the theater was me, [livejournal.com profile] gothphyle and a hundred tweens.

I knew what I was getting into when I went there and I have to say, it was crack-tastic. Not a great movie but it was fun. (As for the music, most of the tunes were on my ipod. I guess I'm no better, or worse, than the average 12 year old girl.)

The sound problem wasn't there in the theater I was in.

I've heard that the author had a cameo in the movie. Do you know what scene she was in?

My review is up. There was actually some entertaining stuff in it, and aside from the actress playing the lead, I thought most of the actors did as well as they could, knowing in advance what a huge cult following the books have (the ones that knew ahead of time, anyway).

I agree. It was fun. Pretty standard vampy stuff, pretty much.

It's in the diner, in the scene were Bella's eating with her father, and the four old guys at the next table lean over and ask him what's going on with Waylan's murder investigation. Stephanie Meyer was the woman sitting at the counter in the establishing shot, who asked for a vegetarian meal. She was wearing a red or maroon sweater.

I'm wondering if the sound problem was because we were right under one of the speakers.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!
