Crazy at the Library
Sep. 20th, 2007 06:34 amAh, I love Alexander McCall Smith's Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency series...I went to the library yesterday to return a heap o' manga Mermaid has taken out (10?) and the Harry Potter book and a few Cornelia Funk books (Inkheart/Inkspell, Ghosthunters series) that my kids weren't interested in. I couldn't get into them either. The translation style didn't appeal to me at all.
But, like I said, I found the *newest* Ladies Detective Agency on the 7-day loaner shelve and snagged it - only to find there have been two or three new books out on the series list I knew nothing about! Argh! Reading his series is like visiting a comfortable home. It's contentment.
I also swung by the YA paperback metal shelves (the type that swirl around) and discovered Diane Duane's Young Wizard series. I found all but the second book in the series. I don't remember if I've read any of Duane's stuff, but it looked appealing. We'll see.
Oh! And there was also a book on the Summer Reading shelf that I snagged, too, written by the Miles Vorsagian author (blanking on her name at the moment). I've heard about this book, I think. If I don't like it, I'll just take it back. But I do like her style, and the way her stories hang together.
