Boston Legal!
OMG!
The starting sequence was simply a riot! Jerry starting to sing (without words) in that utterly joyful sound, the theme song for Boston Legal!
Okay, okay, for a long while, I was starting to get sick of Jerry/Hands and how he seemed to be dominating the show with Alan, while Alan wasn't really relating to anyone else on the show except occasionally Denny Crane.
Denny was hilarious, and so was Shirley. Could Denny and Alan's friendship+ be any MORE text? The writers are squeezing that angle so hard you can hear it scream! Like I did! Shirley! Shirley was back this episode, and man, how could you *not* react to Jerry's speech giving his case for why he wants to come back? It *was* a touching moment.
Denny's scene with Jerry (the second one, without Alan there) was a little abrupt with Denny's turnabout, but, thinking about it, I guess Denny realized that Alan would *really really appreciate* Denny's blessings for Jerry coming back. And the fact that Jerry told Denny right off that there was no way he could ever be Denny to Alan, sealed the deal. (well, that and the Shirley sex-doll) Besides, I think even Denny could see how much Jerry has grown - the man did, after all, defeat ALAN in court! No one else on the show has done that. Denny would have to be beyond stupid to realize what a great litigator he's got now.
Er...does Hands have a first name? I don't remember. And yes, he does - thank you, BSG!
Thank heavens, there was a respite from Claire & Clarence; Brad & Denise - I get a bit fed-up with the soap opera elements.
OH! And I almost forgot! In the final balconey scene, between Denny and Alan, I was just *waiting* for Denny's girlfriend to show up, standing between them. She hadn't been in the show at all, so I wasn't sure if she was going to appear; but the way the scene was shot, and how it was about how unstable women are, it was simply inevitable. It was great when she showed up. Now, if they brought her back next season as a FT cast member, that would be terrific. She's clearly more than Denny's Girl on this show. She's a riot with her outspokenness with the other characters. She's got more character than Brad and Denise put together.
Every week I watch this show, and every week I remind myself to go ahead and get the DVDs. It's wonderfully funny, but then I honestly wonder if I'd bother rewatching the DVDs. I've had the episodes saved on the DVR, but never bothered rewatching them. But when the guy who created the show writes an episode like he did last night's? It's killer.
