Ode to a Swiss Army Knife
Mar. 28th, 2007 02:05 pmYears ago (about 1/4 of my life past!) I bought a Swiss Army Knife. It was great. It had scissors, a nail file, two knives large and small, a corkscrew, a silly hook that NO one knows what to do with, a can opener, and so forth. I brought it with me when I went overseas to Korea, and to the other places I travelled. But...in the months after the 9/11 air attacks, I headed to Boston to visit with family. I brought the Swiss Army Knife with me - the one that had gone with me everywhere on a memorable trip - but stupidly, on the trip back to LA, I left the SAK in my on-board backpack. The security guy took a look at it and confiscated it. And it disappeared, never to be seen again. I hope the kid the security guy gave it to has a lot of fun with it.
Now, I can't find a SAK like the one I used to have. It's driving me a little nuts. It's not a high priority, but, you know, it's just one of those things it would be nice to replace. And I found one with the features I want...but also a few tools I doubt I'll ever use.
Added: Heh, I've just gone onto the devil of a website, Amazon.com, and went ahead and ordered a Swiss Army Knife Ranger. It's niiiiiiice.
