Good god...or dog

I'm a long-time reader of blogs like Unclutterer. I forget how many years ago I found it, but it was at least four years ago. And then this year I found another blog, which I really like (even better than Unclutterer) called Clutter Busting.
What both blogs champion is the idea (along with Flylady) that you declutter your life and leave only things in it which make you happy, or fulfill a purpose and that you like.
I finally took a look around our bedroom. There's a yellow bookcase that used to be my mother's. Then when I was a kid, it was in my room at home. When I moved out, somewhere along the way, I ended up with it. Make a note here: my mother is a notorius clutter buster. She can't stand mess and clutter, and I think I've lost a lot of stuff along the way. Bah, I'm getting off track. The point is, this now crappy old bookcase is now in the bedroom that the Guy & I share, and I've finally admitted to myself that I agree with him. That old bookcase is a piece of crap. It's back is falling off, and it really isn't a piece of quality furniture.
I don't like having a piece of my childhood bedroom furniture in my adult bedroom! WTF?
What I did a few days ago was get a book box, and I loaded up all the books (my special books) that were on the shelves, into the box. They've now been out of sight for a few days, and you know what? I only miss a few of those books. Most of them are Stephen King horror novels (my favorites out of all his books) and a few SF/F books, like the Jim Hines Princess trilogy. A few of them I'll take out. The rest I'm going to give to my neighbor. I know she loves Stephen King, and things have been awkward since the Pilates class debacle thing.
Yeah, I look at that bookcase, and the lack of books on those shelves, and I'm relieved that I'm going to get it OUT OF MY ROOM. It and the books. I have to finish unloading some photo albums from it, and the move it out into the garage before I take it to Goodwill.

Unclutterer. O boy. I do like the site, but lately, over the past few months, I've noticed that many of the blog entries have a definite bias. It's not that there's a blog out there that doesn't have a bias. It's a blog! But there are hints of a hypocrisy or something similiar enough to it that I find unpleasant, which I suspect more folks are discovering, based on a recent entry wowing all over a guitar pick punch that really should have been in their Wednesday Unitasker column. Instead, the blog owner deleted ALL comments and closed them off. But it's not that she did that: it's that I don't think she even realized or wanted to admit that she flubbed. You know?
I find the worst blogs that I go to are ones in that the blog writers do not admit to their biases, are not aware of them, and don't hold them in check AND don't realize that not all their readers will be served by their exclusive bias, and that it's in their interest to widen their box-like view of the world. I'm thinking specifically of The Simple Dollar, a daddy-budget blog. I still read that one out of fascination with trainwrecks.
