I am NOT a numbers person, but because I'm the one in the household responsible for paying bills, I also have an interest in making sure that paying down debt goes on efficiently. I juggled a few numbers this morning between a credit card (we have only two) and our second balloon mortgage. Turns out that paying more on the biggest credit card debt to get rid of it sooner and then snowballing that amount into the second mortgage would mean paying out more interest on the mortgage. I'm dealing with the debt payoff the right way, so far.  My main concern is less the interest, and more the paying off of the balloon before it pops. I've gone over the numbers (sort of) with the Guy, who also does not want to deal with a huge loan payoff in about 11 years. So the extra money I put into that loan is fixed, unless we want an unwelcome surprise in a few years.

In other news, Tall Boy's birthday party at Mountasia went well. Two of the kids who said they'd show up *didn't*, which kind of burns my britches, but since we had to pay for 10 spots anyway, it wasn't that big of a loss. I think next time (if there is a next time) what we'll do is arrive early when the place opens, stake out the free party tables, order some pizza, and buy some $20 indoor passes. It means forgoing the ice cream sundaes and the drumroll for the birthday child, but that's okay. You also don't have a time limit on the party table that way. Live and learn!

The Guy is now at an Enterprise rental dealership, where they sell their used cars. He's angling for a 2010 Ford Edge, and I guess he's figuring out the loan amount now. His Toyota Sienna is on its last legs; the engine is unattached from the mounts, all the door handles have broken off on the inside and outside (he had to have some repaired) and generally, this 1998 model is falling apart. It needs at least $5000 in repairs, so we figured it's probably smarter to put that money toward a newer car that doesn't have emerging safety issues.  I'm still pretty happy with my 2001 Honda Civic, but it IS feeling smaller with the kids growing bigger. And the interior needs some deep cleaning and fixing. But that's an easy fix.
There's a really cool desktop calendar at Studio Tangie Creative Team's website. I have this up on my computer right now. Check it out!
